Welcome everybody. How you got here I have no idea but thank you for coming and welcome again, nonetheless . As you may have gathered this is a Fic Prompting Meme dedicated solely to the hilarious and oh-so-addictive BBC Radio 4 sitcom - Cabin Pressure. I'm aiming for this to be pretty anything goes - but in order for everything to run smoothly, there are a few guidelines. Don't worry - they're not too restrictive.

FILLING GUIDELINES

As you probably all know - our meme now has it's very own database created and maintained by the great Enigel. It both catalogues each and every prompt that we post and provides links to fills. You can find it here: Google Spreadsheet

We also have a Pinboard archive which has been put in place by the lovely oxfordtweed in the place of our late Delicious Archive. This Archive contains a list of all the prompts this meme has to offer - you can find it here: Pinboard Archive

This is a great step forward in making our meme just a little more organised (but not too organised of course. This is Cabin Pressure) which is always a good thing.

So in order to make things easier to archive - Please nest your fills.

This can be done by either posting each part as a reply to that part's immediate predecessor, OR by replying each time to Part I OR - well you get the idea :D

It makes it simpler for Enigel and myself to link fills in a clean and clear manner. Following these guildelines will be very much appreciated guys :D

REPROMPTING

Reprompting is allowed but please include the URL of the original prompt when you do so. It will make it infinitely more easy to Archive which would make both Enigel and I very happy :)

As for everything else

1. Be respectful to one another. Disagreements are fine, but not everything disagreeable is trolling. If you suspect someone of trolling, just ignore it. If you cannot respond to a comment without attacking or trolling someone else, keep it to yourself.


2. No bashing prompts. It might not be your cup of tea - but obviously someone wants it enough to go to the effort of requesting it. So just scroll past it.


3. Prompt away as much as you like guys - seriously, go wild - but please try to fill as well.

NEW - If your fill includes a major element that veers from the original prompt (crossovers, established universes, kinks, et cetera), please take a few moments to check with the OP that such additions are welcome. This has caused problems in the past and it only takes a few moments of your time.

4. Please no RPF. I'm not trying to oppress you RPF writers and enthusiasts, I would just really like to avoid any legal problems.


5. When you post a fill (or post a new part of a WIP) please go over to the Filled Prompts Post (if it is complete) or the WIP Post (if there are still more parts to come) and, following each post's guideline's, post a link to this fill or new part.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

+ Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Douglas wants to know why it took Martin seven attempts to get his pilot license

Martin had never told anyone why it had taken him seven tries to get his pilot license ... so one day Douglas gets curious and finally gets Martin to talk and finds out that it's been more than bad luck and a lack of skills.

I already have a basic framework for this but I would be interested in any other solution aswell:

The first time Martin fails to get his pilot license it is because of a stupid little mistake. The second time it is because he is so afraid of failing again. When his mother becomes terminately ill, Martin is so worried and unconcentrated that fails his pilot test for the third time even though he'd wanted to make his parents be proud of him. After his mother's death his father pays for Martin's fourth attempt of taking the test only because it has been his mother's wish. Being so scared of failing again and disappointing his father, Martin loses his nerves and fails again. That evening Martin's father attacks his son, telling him over and over again what a disappointment he is, always failing and wasting the family's money on trying to become a pilot, caring more about his riddiculous dream than his mother who in the end died being disappointed in her son (which is not true because in contrast to Martin's father she had always believed in her son and supported him).

I'll leave it to you how this goes on and what helped Martin pass the test in the end.

All right, drivers, just a quick bing bong before we resume our regularly-scheduled madness.

It's been brought to attention that there has been an increase in crossover fills. This in and of itself is not the problem, but rather that these fills are answering prompts that did not ask for crossovers.

Now, crossovers are great, and we want neither to discourage them nor fillers writing fills to prompts that jump out at them. But I would like to point out that not everyone is familiar with whatever fandom you may be crossing over. It can be very disheartening to receive a fill that you do not understand or aren't able to follow because you don't know the canon of the other fandom.

If you want to write a crossover prompt to a fill that doesn't specify a crossover, you can do one of several things:

Ask the OP if a crossover with X fandom is OK. If yes, then fill away.

If for whatever reason they don't want a crossover, you are by all means still welcome to write whatever bunny burrowed its way into your head! The last thing we want to discourage is creativity. Once you've finished your fic, there are plenty of people over at cabin_pressure who would love to read it. If you want to let people know that it's inspired by a certain fill, you are again more than welcome to!

And you may also want to check out the prompt index, under the crossover and fusion tags. There may be an older prompt that fits your idea, and I'm sure the OP would love to read your fic.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to reply to mod posts, I'm sorry if I'm not, but I just wanted to say thank you so much for this reminder! It was always such a disappointment for me to see a fill I'd been really hoping for as a surprise crossover but I felt too awful saying anything when I wasn't the OP.

Anyway, thanks again for being a wonderful mod.

Forced kissing

It was a regular day, regular flight, nothing out of the ordinary. Once they're on the ground, Douglas grabs Martin, pushes him against a wall and kisses the hell out of him. He lets go of Martin and walks away like nothing happened.

The next day, Douglas keeps acting like nothing happened. When Martin tries to bring it up, Douglas feigns innocence. Then just as Martin goes, "Whatever I'm leaving," Douglas forces another epic kiss fest on him.

Then continues like normal.

Bad dream

I had a bad dream last night in which MJN were in a car crash. Martin and Carolyn weren't too badly injured, but Douglas needed drastic surgery and Arthur was in a coma :'(
So please comfort me, meme! Can we have one of the crew having a similar bad dream, and then being comforted by someone? :)

Squealing brakes. Lights flashing. A horrible, bone-deep crunch as the car left the road and smashed into the barrier on the edge.

Then everything went silent. That was the worst part, the lack of any noise. In any other situation it would have been peaceful, but now it was more horrifying than anything that had happened.

Glancing around from the back seat, Martin took in the destruction caused. Carolyn’s head was resting against the steering wheel, half covered in scarlet. Arthur, to his left, head back and eyes shut. He was barely breathing. And Douglas-

Martin was distracted from Douglas’ state as lights flooded the car. Headlights, heading straight towards them. Another screech of brakes, and the lights blinded him as they came nearer. Too fast, far too fast. Light turned to black and the car was almost there and-

-Martin woke suddenly, heart racing and the echoes of that final, terrifying smash of metal against metal, van into the already-destroyed car. Panting, the captain swallowed repeatedly, hoping to calm himself. Realising it to be a foolish hope, he sprang up, barely making it to the hotel room’s shabby bathroom before he started to retch.

This wasn’t the first time that he’d had the nightmare. It had all started with the almost-crash three weeks ago. They’d been travelling up the A32 when a car had swerved suddenly into their lane. They’d avoided a collision my millimetres. All four of the passengers had come out unhurt but incredibly shaken. The first nightmare had happened that night, with a repetition three nights later.

Martin was broken out of his thoughts by the sound of someone knocking on the bathroom door. “Martin?” Douglas’ voice called through softly. Flushing the toilet and taking a few sips of water, the captain wiped his mouth before opening the door and heading back to his bed.

Douglas wasn’t deterred. “Goodness, Martin. I’m going to assume that tonight’s meal didn’t agree with you at all, then? Surprised you had anything spare to throw up, to be honest.”

Martin nearly spoke, then. Nearly admitted that he’d had a nightmare, had been having nightmares for a few weeks now, but he found that he wasn’t able to. He was sure that his First Officer would mock him endlessly for it, and so he simply kept quiet. After a while, he heard Douglas go back to sleep. He didn’t sleep any more that night, instead going through the checklist for emergency procedures until the murky dawn light began to appear.

“Wake up, Skipper! We’re flying home today!” Arthur said as the four members of MJN sat around one of the cafeteria tables with their coffees. Carolyn looked unimpressed.

“I hope you actually slept last night. The last thing we need is an exhausted pilot.” She muttered, studying him. Martin didn’t meet her eyes.

“Our gallant sir found himself rather wretchedly ill last night, Carolyn. I’d be more concerned over that. Luckily, we’re only about two hours flight away from Fitton, so Martin isn’t necessary for the flight. I think it’d be best if I take this one, being in considerably better health.” Douglas responded. Everyone was shocked when Martin stayed silent, not putting up a word of complaint or indignation. The captain remained silent for the rest of the morning, only speaking to run through the pre-flight checks with Douglas as they prepared to fly home.

The flight was more subdued than normal, and everyone was pleased to be back home again quickly. Arthur and Douglas vanished abruptly, but Carolyn pulled Martin to one side before he could leave. “A word, if I may.” She said, pulling him around and sitting him in one of the passenger chairs. Standing in front of him, arms crossed and a scowl on her face, it was clear that she wanted an explanation. Much to his shock, Martin found himself telling her.

As his story continued, he was surprised to see Carolyn’s expression soften into one of concern and a hint of sympathy. He was even more so when he realised that he was crying as he spoke. When he’d finished, he sniffled slightly, and Carolyn passed a tissue. He found that he felt somewhat better having shared the nightmare.

Carolyn didn’t bother saying soothing words, but as Martin stood she reached forward, silently pulling him into a hug. After a few seconds, Martin tentatively responded, resting his head on her shoulder and almost sagging into her. She felt her shirt becoming wet as he started to cry again, and simply rubbed his back slightly as he tried to calm himself down. It was a few minutes before Martin awkwardly pulled back, a sheepish expression on his face but also a small smile.

“Thank you.” He said.

“Just don’t mention this to anyone, and we’ll be fine. I have a reputation, after all, and that was a one-time lapse, understood?” She replied.

Neither spoke of it again; Douglas and Arthur never knew.

Martin's Parents

Thinking that Martin's in his early 30s, it's quite legitimately possible that his mum's only in her early 50s, which means that it's also very possible his dad died quite young.

Which gives rise to two ideas:

One, what if Martin's dad died of something congenital that puts Martin and Simon at quite high risk of suffering from it too? Do with that thought what you like.

And two, Martin's mum is still a busy, active, independent working woman and now all her kids are off living their own lives she's got more than enough space and time to find herself a charming, attentive gentleman caller. A gentleman caller she's sure her Martin would love to meet as he also happens to be a pilot! A silver-tongued, syrupy-voiced, worryingly familiar pilot...
(I'm thinking either Douglas or Herc would work, for a variety of different freaking-out-Martin reasons. Though if it's Herc I'd love to see Martin being intensely offended on both his mum and Carolyn's behalf)

Any type of AU, please feel free to go wild: steampunk, dystopian, crossover, soulmate/bonding, hell, I'll even take omegaverse (they can make animal noises together!), just some of this under-loved pairing.

The reason why Martin's so poor and hungry all the time? All his income goes towards feeding and clothing his son (previous marriage? tragic widower? teenage liason gone wrong, idk), who lives with him in the attic, and who gets babysat by the students when Martin's on flights. Martin is completely terrified that one day, someone is going to declare him an unfit parent and take his son away (in his eyes, an unpaid pilot with a struggling van business isn't exactly a good parental model, but damn, Martin tries to be the best father he can). The kid just thinks his dad's the coolest in the world.

The MJN crew find out. How do they react to little Crieff? Does Douglas take a shine to the kid (who happily inherited his father's vibrant ginger) and tries to teach him the ways of the world [i.e., how to steal sweets, charm the ladies etc]?

Would like to read D/M roleplaying a non-consensual scenario.

Not necessarily within the same 'verse (though Branwyn has given permission <3) - because part of me desperately wants to explore the idea of *Douglas* being the one who wants to pretend to be forced, because it's the only way he can let go. But Martin works as well. Oh boy, does he ever.

Feel free to explore - I've only read and, um, thought about it from the sub perspective before. What is it like for the Dom? Does Douglas, for example, enjoy a fantasy of power abuse, or is he only doing it for Martin?

Established relationship preferred, safe, sane and consensual.

Douglas catches a nasty cold/the flu/gets ill while MJN are too far out for Martin to fly back alone. Clearly, Carolyn's not going to shell out money to have another pilot bring them home. So, does Martin fly back himself while Douglas is miserable in the cabin (despite the clear blow to Douglas's ego), or does Douglas suck it up and do his part, even though he's miserable?

They've been in a serious relationship for some time now, so when Douglas asks, Martin readily agrees to move in with him.
Douglas discovers there's a reason why Martin lived alone in a crappy attic instead of sharing a flat/room with someone - Martin is an absolute horror of a flatmate, and Douglas is not sure the warm and fuzzy feelings he has for his captain are enough to compensate for it.

Martin hits Douglas

During one of Douglas' more cruel bouts of Captain-taunting, Martin loses his temper and hits him (a slap? a punch? a "clip 'round the ear"?)

Does Martin survive the verbal skewering that's sure to follow? Or... does something entirely different happen?

(I don't know, it's just that for me it's Martin who tends to lose his temper, like with Kieran, or in 'Gdansk' when he was seething with anger at their silly games. And especially against people like Douglas, who know how to twist everything with their words.)
