PROMPT POST PART III

Please see the most recent MOD NOTE

(updated 6 June)

Cabin Pressure Fic Prompt Post Three

Welcome everybody. How you got here I have no idea but thank you for coming and welcome again, nonetheless . As you may have gathered this is a Fic Prompting Meme dedicated solely to the hilarious and oh-so-addictive BBC Radio 4 sitcom - Cabin Pressure. I'm aiming for this to be pretty anything goes - but in order for everything to run smoothly, there are a few guidelines. Don't worry - they're not too restrictive.

FILLING GUIDELINES

As you probably all know - our meme now has it's very own database created and maintained by the great Enigel. It both catalogues each and every prompt that we post and provides links to fills. You can find it here: Google Spreadsheet

We also have a Pinboard archive which has been put in place by the lovely [personal profile] oxfordtweed in the place of our late Delicious Archive. This Archive contains a list of all the prompts this meme has to offer - you can find it here: Pinboard Archive

This is a great step forward in making our meme just a little more organised (but not too organised of course. This is Cabin Pressure) which is always a good thing.

So in order to make things easier to archive - Please nest your fills.

This can be done by either posting each part as a reply to that part's immediate predecessor, OR by replying each time to Part I OR - well you get the idea :D

It makes it simpler for Enigel and myself to link fills in a clean and clear manner. Following these guildelines will be very much appreciated guys :D

REPROMPTING

Reprompting is allowed but please include the URL of the original prompt when you do so. It will make it infinitely more easy to Archive which would make both Enigel and I very happy :)

As for everything else

  1. Be respectful to one another. Disagreements are fine, but not everything disagreeable is trolling. If you suspect someone of trolling, just ignore it. If you cannot respond to a comment without attacking or trolling someone else, keep it to yourself.

  2. No bashing prompts. It might not be your cup of tea - but obviously someone wants it enough to go to the effort of requesting it. So just scroll past it.

  3. Prompt away as much as you like guys - seriously, go wild - but please try to fill as well.

  4. NEW - If your fill includes a major element that veers from the original prompt (crossovers, established universes, kinks, et cetera), please take a few moments to check with the OP that such additions are welcome. This has caused problems in the past and it only takes a few moments of your time.
  5. Please no RPF. I'm not trying to oppress you RPF writers and enthusiasts, I would just really like to avoid any legal problems.

  6. When you post a fill (or post a new part of a WIP) please go over to the Filled Prompts Post (if it is complete) or the WIP Post (if there are still more parts to come) and, following each post's guideline's, post a link to this fill or new part.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

+ Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

Dinner at Richardson's

(Anonymous) 2012-02-20 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
D/M or gen

Douglas has dinner with his daughter and his ex-wife in his ex-home. (And with Martin.) It's tense and awkward, and it can't be over soon enough.

Later Douglas' daughter stays at his (and Martin's home) and Carolyn and Herc visiting, and Arthur, and the dogs, and it's all insane and wonderfully MJN Air.

Camping!

(Anonymous) 2012-02-20 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
During the rhyming destinations game, Martin mentioned camping in Wales.

So I'd love a fic of the Crieff family on a camping trip! Or perhaps Martin brings some MJN people to Wales for a bit of nostalgia.

Would love to see MJN camping! Second.

ATCs on MJN

[personal profile] straydog733 2012-02-20 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
MJN through the eyes of the Air Traffic Controllers. Do they hate them? Are they amused by them? Was the woman from Shanwick out for blood after all the diversions in "Boston"? Or do they all get together and trade stories about the weird little airdot that could?

Re: ATCs on MJN

(Anonymous) 2012-02-21 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconded.

I reckon the man from the Bristol ATC in Ottery St Mary would like them; he just plays along with Douglas's flying piano thing. :P

Give me anything, anything at all, about Arthur calling Martin brilliant.

I'm partial to these two as a pairing, but friendship would be fine, too.

FILL: Like Always

(Anonymous) 2012-02-20 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
All in all, it had been a pretty average week - the problem being that a "pretty average week" in the life of Martin Crieff consisted chiefly of things going wrong.

On Monday morning, his van wouldn't start. He knew the basics and a bit more of auto repair, out of simple necessity, but he wouldn't have time to fix it until Wednesday, which meant he had to cancel the two jobs that had been set for that day, which meant he would probably have to choose between rent and food on Friday - which meant he would be eating whatever he could get during flights, because he always chose rent. He wouldn't get another chance to work until Saturday, if any work came up, and if he needed to buy anything before then he would have to do one of the students' assignments for them in exchange for grocery money.

On Tuesday, he barely made it to the airfield on time, because he'd had to get a lift from one of the students, because his van was broken and he absolutely could not afford a taxi. Douglas teased him about being the last to show up for once, but dropped the subject when Martin managed to simply laugh with him about it. The landing that evening was shaky. Douglas said nothing, which only frazzled Martin's nerves more - because if Douglas wasn't trying to razz him, he must look like there was something wrong. And there wasn't. He was fine. It was only Tuesday, after all.

On Wednesday, he fixed the van. He worked steadily and carefully for five hours, and managed it in enough time that he could still make the second appointment - but upon calling the client, he found that they'd already hired someone else. He went to bed, because it was better than staying awake and being angry.

On Thursday, he he was tired and groggy and his hands were sore from repairing the van. He could hardly speak without second-guessing himself or choking on his own words, which Douglas used to his full advantage during the entirety of the flight. It seemed that somewhere along the line, Douglas had decided that he would be (relatively) nice to Martin when it seemed he was having an off day - but apparently, the one thing Douglas Richardson was not good at was figuring out which days those were. The passengers disembarked cheerily at the end of the fourteen-hour flight, the three young children and a few adults giggling about the way the first officer had hidden the captain's hat in one of the overhead compartments, and the way the captain had nearly broken his neck trying to get it down when the plane had hit "unexpected turbulence," as the first officer had announced apologetically a moment later. Martin smiled tightly at the children, glared at Douglas, pretended to remember he'd forgotten something on the plane, and hid in the toilet because he wasn't sure whether or not he was going to cry. He did, but not for very long.

On Friday, he paid his rent, and wrote a paper that would earn at least a passing grade. He handed it over for a stack of notes, fought back the guilt of helping the agriculturists of the future sabotage their own educations, and went shopping. He came back with enough pasta to last at least another week if he didn't eat dinner that night. He went to sleep.

On Saturday, he got a call about moving a wardrobe. He slipped getting it up the stairs at the client's new flat and dislocated his shoulder. He popped it back into place, finished the job, got his money, climbed back into his van, pulled out the emergency blanket he kept in the back seat, and screamed into it for a few minutes.

On Sunday, they flew a cranky old rich man and his intolerable and equally cranky grandchildren to America. The children ignored the seatbelt sign and the old man ignored the children.

When they got back to Fitton on Monday, Martin felt less like a person and more like a machine that had been running for too long on too little fuel. He volunteered to stay behind and help Arthur with the hoovering, because frankly anything sounded better than going back to his attic at the moment - even if it meant staying awake another couple of hours.

After Douglas and Carolyn had left, Arthur disappeared into the galley and came back out a couple of minutes later with a cup of coffee. He handed it to Martin, accompanied by a slightly tired-looking version of his usual beaming smile. "Here you go, Skip. I thought you might be tired after that flight, what with the kids screaming, and the, uh. Well, mostly just that. It's just that there were a lot of them."

"Thank you, Arthur," Martin said, managing a small smile as he sipped gratefully from the steaming cup.

"Sure thing, Skipper. I thought you were great the whole flight, by the way," Arthur enthused. "Really, really... patient, and focused. I mean, Douglas kept saying he wished there were mountains to crash into in the ocean, and Mum told me I ought to poison the biscuits before I handed them out, but you just, well, flew the plane. You were brilliant! Like always. Oh - um. Here, let me..."

Arthur twisted around and carefully removed the cup of hot liquid from Martin's hand, setting it down in the seat nearest them before happily returning the captain's hug.

(Apparently I can't write serious porn, so I went the joke route. Hope you enjoy anyway!)

“…Wow. I’ve never had that happen before.”

“Oh God, oh Laura, I am so sorry!”

“I don’t think I’ve even heard of that happening to any of my friends before.”

“It’s just, well, you just looked so lovely, and I-“

“My friends and I are really open with each other. Now I’m curious if this has ever happened with them. I’ll have to ask.”

“I mean, it’s not like it’s been forever for me, but it, well, it has been a fair amount of time, and I suppose I’m just a little tightly wound, and um, um, uh, did you at least enjoy it?”

“Yeah, yeah, I mean, I came. As I think you noticed.”

“Oh god.”

“I’m just a little surprised, is all. I mean, I cannot think of a single occurrence of a guy coming while he’s going down on someone. Most guys do it grudgingly, you know?”

“Um, well, I’m…heh, I’m clearly happy to do it.”

“Clearly.”

“And like I said, you just look great from this angle. Not, not that you don’t look great from any angle! I’m not saying you just look good when I’m face down in your bits, I really like your…your face is very nice. Better than down here. Well, not better, both places are very, um, aesthetically pleasing. Equally aesthetically pleasing.”

“…I’m going to put my pants back on, if it’s all the same with you.”

“Oh, you, uh, you don’t want to-“

“To…?”

“Well, um…you know.”

“Are you up for it?”

“Huh? Oh! Oh, yes, um, just give it a second! I’ll be good to go in absolutely no time at all! I swear!”

“Yes, but what’s the point?”

“…Pardon?”

“I mean, you’ve come, and I’ve come, so why don’t we just call it a night?”

“Well, yes, that is true, but there are a, a few more things I would like to do. In an ideal situation. Like, perhaps, just throwing this out there…actually have sex.”

“Oh, Martin, I’m sorry, but I’m just really not feeling it now. I mean, it was good for me, and I wouldn’t want to leave you without some release. But you already came, so I’d rather not start a whole new thing and have to get all ready and in the mood again, and I do have work early in the morning.”

“Oh. Alright. Okay. So, um, maybe I could call you? Sometime. At some point. To, maybe, give this another shot.”

“Mmm, how about we just let this grow organically, okay? I mean, we’ll see each other around the airfield, so we can just sort of play it by ear, alright? Don’t want to force things like this.”

“…Fair enough.”

“Glad you understand. I’m just going to get dressed and pop out, and I will see you when I see you!”

“Yes, yes, I will certainly see you around.”

“Thanks for a good night, Martin.”

“Um, yes, and…same to you.”

-/-
-/-

“So, how did it go?”

“How did what go?”

“Oh, don’t play coy with me, Martin. How did it go with Laura? There are only so many occasions when you manage to flirt up an attractive airfield manager’s assistant (if anything, because there are so few of them), so you can’t just let it pass without some sort of story.”

“Douglas, just…I really, really don’t want to talk about it.”

“Hmm, bad night, then? You really do need to refine your technique. Make the evening all about her.”

“…shut up.”

Sometimes Martin has a butterfly affect.

He doesn't live the way he does because he wants to, but because he knows by taking another choice, by going down a different road, he affects the lives of other people.

On days when he feels like being selfish, he looks to the future, sees the consequences of his actions bring, and steps down. He vows to "let nothing happen."

Then Douglas (unknowingly) changes his mind with this: (Stolen from Finding Nemo) "If you let nothing happen, Martin, then nothing will ever happen."

Refused a visa into Sydney ("Long story, stag night it was") Douglas's only hope of getting his precious "gift" to its rendezvous is Arthur's Australian passport, and by extension Arthur himself.

What could possibly go wrong.

A new student moves into the house. One who has always wanted to be a pilot, only everyone always told them they wouldn't be able to do it, so they gave up and chose something else instead. They do still really wish they could have been a pilot, but hey, they suppose that's life.

How does Martin find out (comes up in conversation/drunken confession/he spots their copy of Flight Simulator while helping them move in/etc)?

And more importantly, how does he react?

Just listened to Ottery St Mary.

Is it me, or does Carolyn sound genuinely nervous when she asks Herc if they'll "do this again"?

Whether it is or not, it inspired a prompt: Herc and Carolyn fight/break up. Properly. Both are devestated but of course neither says anything and refuse to even admit the possibility they might miss each other.

The MJN boys must resolve matters.

Happy ending please. :)

Martin moves into the attic. Considernig it's so cheap, he expects something awful like mold, cold winds, and bats nesting. But to his surprise, he finds out the attic is freakin' awesome. Fully furnished, beautiful view, huge and warm. So why the cheap price?

"Oh, nobody likes the attic," says the owner, Carolyn Knapp-Shappey in a rather strange voice. "It's hard to rent out."

That night, Martin finds out why. The attic is haunted. By a poltergiest named Douglas. And Douglas likes 'breaking in' the people who choose to live in the attic.

Carolyn finds out that Herc and Douglas used to fool around together when they were younger. She's mortified - because really, it's like realizing you're dating somebody your son once went out with. Herc and Douglas are amused, and completely, totally secure in their respective sexualities (whatever they ended up deciding they were).

Bonus: This all comes out on a flight (why Herc is with them is up to you), and Douglas takes great pleasure in making Martin increasingly uncomfortable in the flight deck by "accidentally" giving him too much information about Herc.

Keep Your Head Up

(Anonymous) 2012-02-21 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
So, there's this song by Andy Grammer called "Keep Your Head Up". (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LMVJ2xd1g8) The basic moral of the song is, "Even though life is shit right now, as long as you keep yourself grounded, things'll get better."

Apply this to Martin, somehow. IDK--maybe that's his mantra. Maybe someone finds him singing the song. 5 Times Martin Kept His Head Up and 1 Time it Paid off. IDK. I just want Martin to have a happy. :(

Martin slipped down and flicked the computer on - the ten year old monster that howled and whined, but did it's job - and typed in a youtube address, checking over his shoulder every now and then just in case the students had left something behind.

Setting a playlist to random, Martin flicked on the speakers, listening to the crackling. The music was quiet at first, instrumental songs while he cooked up some pasta for dinner, but as he was clearing up from his meal, it changed. He tapped his feet to the beat, body quaking in the first movements of a jerky dance.

"But you gotta keep your head up, oh!" he sang, abandoning his dishes to jump around in the kitchen, sponge in hand.

Grin across his face, he wiggled and spun, bits of foam from his sponge flying about.

"And you can let your hair down, eh!"

"I know it's hard, know its hard," Martin gasped, the bouncing making his voice wobble.

It didn't matter that it wasn't perfect. That's what this was about - not being perfect, but doing it anyway. To hell with the disbelievers and nay-sayers! Sometimes life didn't go his way - hell, life didn't go his way very often - but Martin was going to make the most of it.

Martin flopped onto the couch, laughing as the song came to an end. He wiped the foam from his hair (how had it ended up there?), stood and went back to his dishes.

This prompt clearly stuck in my head, because here's what I drew during my politics lecture this morning. Apologies for the fact that I can't draw.

Not sure how to embed on Dreamwidth, but I'll have a go...

Mile-High Club

For a show about planes, this fandom seems to have very little sex in planes. This needs to be rectified!

Give me some Mile High Club goodness! One of the crew getting in with someone on GERTI, having to deal with passengers who are trying to get their club cards re-newed, or even just someone applying for solo membership (no, the puns could not be avoided).

The only requirements are some kind of smutty goodness, on a plane, while it's flying.

If you don't mind waiting a day, I will have something for you.

Because this prompt is made of so much win.

With Arthur and pancakes mixed, all I can think of is the episode of Invader Zim where Gir makes waffles.

"What's in these, Gir?"
"There's waffle in 'em!"
"YOU LIE!"

"These ones have peanuts and soap!"

"Well, Gir, your waffles have made me sick. Bring the bucket!"

...aw man, now I just want Arthur and Gir to meet and try and cook things.

Which is a round-about way of saying "Seconded!"
