Welcome everybody. How you got here I have no idea but thank you for coming and welcome again, nonetheless . As you may have gathered this is a Fic Prompting Meme dedicated solely to the hilarious and oh-so-addictive BBC Radio 4 sitcom - Cabin Pressure. I'm aiming for this to be pretty anything goes - but in order for everything to run smoothly, there are a few guidelines. Don't worry - they're not too restrictive.

FILLING GUIDELINES

As you probably all know - our meme now has it's very own database created and maintained by the great Enigel. It both catalogues each and every prompt that we post and provides links to fills. You can find it here: Google Spreadsheet

We also have a Pinboard archive which has been put in place by the lovely oxfordtweed in the place of our late Delicious Archive. This Archive contains a list of all the prompts this meme has to offer - you can find it here: Pinboard Archive

This is a great step forward in making our meme just a little more organised (but not too organised of course. This is Cabin Pressure) which is always a good thing.

So in order to make things easier to archive - Please nest your fills.

This can be done by either posting each part as a reply to that part's immediate predecessor, OR by replying each time to Part I OR - well you get the idea :D

It makes it simpler for Enigel and myself to link fills in a clean and clear manner. Following these guildelines will be very much appreciated guys :D

REPROMPTING

Reprompting is allowed but please include the URL of the original prompt when you do so. It will make it infinitely more easy to Archive which would make both Enigel and I very happy :)

As for everything else

1. Be respectful to one another. Disagreements are fine, but not everything disagreeable is trolling. If you suspect someone of trolling, just ignore it. If you cannot respond to a comment without attacking or trolling someone else, keep it to yourself.


2. No bashing prompts. It might not be your cup of tea - but obviously someone wants it enough to go to the effort of requesting it. So just scroll past it.


3. Prompt away as much as you like guys - seriously, go wild - but please try to fill as well.

NEW - If your fill includes a major element that veers from the original prompt (crossovers, established universes, kinks, et cetera), please take a few moments to check with the OP that such additions are welcome. This has caused problems in the past and it only takes a few moments of your time.

4. Please no RPF. I'm not trying to oppress you RPF writers and enthusiasts, I would just really like to avoid any legal problems.


5. When you post a fill (or post a new part of a WIP) please go over to the Filled Prompts Post (if it is complete) or the WIP Post (if there are still more parts to come) and, following each post's guideline's, post a link to this fill or new part.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. + Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

I don't know how, but something where Douglas goes a bit Gene Hunt. ("You're surrounded by flying bastards!" etc.) Maybe he's a fan of LoM, or maybe he's channeling Gene, or maybe Gene does pilots as well as police, I don't know.

Arthur Shappey runs a tiny little airdot that he inherited from his father. His mum lives with him and occasionally gets bored with sitting at home all day with the dog and will come along to play stewardess, although she's rather short-tempered at times and generally not very good at being a stewardess.

Arthur also employs two pilots: the captain, a veteran pilot from Air England, who was sacked after a smuggling incident, and the first officer, a nervous, twitchy little man who barely gets by and has a van job on the side.


Basically, everyone is the same, but they take on slightly different roles. How does this change MJN?

TW abuse: bdsm AU, secretly sub!Martin

Martin is a sub. But no one hires subs as pilots, and no dom wants their sub working a dangerous job. So after his jealous, controlling doms sabotage one attempt at getting his CPL after another, Martin decides he doesn't need a relationship. He doesn't lie about being a sub, exactly, he just--doesn't bring it up.

Except that one day, for whatever reason, Douglas sees him without his shirt. Martin has scars--the kinds of scars that only subs get, if they have careless or cruel doms. Realizing that Martin is a sub, all Douglas's protective dom instincts kick into high gear--Martin lives in a moldy attic! Martin's tired and malnourished! He's been hurting Martin's feelings, when he ought to have been looking after him! NONE OF THIS IS OKAY.

Martin, of course, is terrified, because he thinks Douglas is going to take him even less seriously as a pilot than he did before, not to mention that he always seems to attract doms who like to take advantage. But in fact, Douglas takes him much more seriously now that he understands how hard Martin has worked to get to where he is. He's just furious at the way Martin's been treated and wants to make it up to him as best he can. Martin is scared and uncomfortable, but also secretly thrilled. He does trust Douglas, after all.

BONUSES:
After Martin is outed as a sub, he tells Douglas, in a NON-SEXUAL CONTEXT, that he doesn't even have a safeword anymore because the last dom he was with never asked him for one, or never listened when he used it. Douglas is simultaneously nauseated and apoplectic.

Subs are supposed to like pain. Martin used to, but--not since his last dom. He doesn't like to be tied up either, for the same reason. He's afraid that any dom he meets will either force him or walk out on him, but Douglas instinctively knows what to do to make him comfortable. Martin discovers that having his wrists and hips penned down makes him feel safe, not trapped.

Arthur is a dom, and he's known all along that Skip was a sub. He could just tell. He's amazed Douglas couldn't.


TL;DR, Douglas is a dom, Martin is a traumatized secret sub, Douglas finds out and desperately wants to take care of him.

I don't know whether this has turned up before, but a fic where Martin, Arthur and Douglas are all Carolyn's children, (with Herc as their cool new stepfather, whom they all adore and who brings them all sweets or model aeroplanes when he comes back from Cal Air.)

The only issue in this otherwise dysfunctional but happy family? Martin and/or Douglas have been adopted and taken out of care. And that's fine: Carolyn loves all her children equally, and Martin and/or Douglas never feel like they aren't part of their brilliant new family.

Except one day, one of their biological parents (I'm thinking Martin's family, but if you want to branch out, feel free), deemed unfit by the council to care for their children, turns up on the doorstep demanding them back. Carolyn knows without a doubt that they will not be cared for properly if she lets them go.

Happy ending, where BAMF!Carolyn sends them packing, or angst, I don't mind, just would give a lemon from my citrus pocket if this was filled =)

Sherlock Crossover

A bit new to this- sorry if I'm doing this wrong. This has been floating around in my head for days. My own headcanon that as a kid, Sherlock's mess of relationships in his family started when he pointed out that his father was having an affair sort of collided with my other headcanon that Martin's an illegitimate child. So, this prompt/quote happened.

"The rings on your sleeve say you're the captain and the paradoxical look of excessive pride and hopelessly low self-esteem etched across your face shows that not many people even think you could be anything more than a steward. Your low self-esteem probably stems from the fact that your mother, Suzanne, is it, had an affair. Your father was needlessly harsh to you do to his correct suspicion that you were not, in fact, his child, and your mother tried to alleviate the suspicion by becoming distant. By comparing your rather dismal treatment to that of your siblings, you came to the conclusion something was wrong with you and thus started your lack of self-worth. Your pride is no doubt from your rank, and-"

"-H-how? How did... how did you know her name?"

"Because your mother had an affair with my father."

After an interesting turn of events in my family, my uncle, who is in his forties, has discovered that he is adopted, and his brother (my dad) was the one who had to tell him- he found out when he sorting through my grandparents stuff in a rather unassuming looking folder. It explains why he never felt like he fit with the family, but its a hell of a lot to take in!

So this for one of our lovely crew please? (I can see it being Martin, but bonus points for Douglas!)

I want to have alllllll the feels- the turmoil of whether you try to trace your birth mother, trying to work out who you really are, etc.

Douglas's first wife was not a nice woman, but then Douglas's father hadn't been a nice man and for Douglas emotional and physical abuse seems standard practice among people who 'only want the best for him.' Eventually he escapes the marriage and the psychological upset by diving into the bottle.

Twenty years later and he's older, wiser and sober. He's also been through three divorces and a demotion. His second and third wives having left him for other men, he's quite willing to accept that the tactics employed by his new girlfriend to make him get his act together- the same as those used by wife number one and his father- are more than justified.

Meanwhile, Martin notices that Douglas has stopped teasing him and has started losing word games even when he's not letting Martin win; Arthur has noticed that Douglas doesn't eat very much, even when he didn't do the cooking; Dirk has noticed that Douglas sometimes arrives really early at the airfield to disappear into a hangar and work on an exercise regime that can't be good for him; Herc has noticed that Douglas has stopped being competitive with him and he doesn't sing anymore; Carolyn has noticed everything, and it's all far too familiar.

Happy ending with MJN and Herc being BAMFs and Douglas realising that he has a lot of people who care about him and he's not actually useless and unattractive.

Gordon kidnapps Martin

Gordon is enraged that MJN tricked him in St. Petersburg and is determined to get his own back. He finds out that they have a very important flight coming up (possibly Birling Day) and decides that somehow he is going to make sure they miss it. Then a few days before the flight, he needs a mover and unknowingly hires Martin. When Martin arrives at his house, Gordon figures that this is his chance and knocks Martin out and ties him up. What happens next?

Douglas has evidently known Herc a long time; he knows his history, he knows about his ex-wives, and he knows how to tell when he's getting serious about someone.

So when he spots the signs with Carolyn, he decides to have a word with Herc along the lines of hurt her and I'll hurt you, tell her I said this and I'll hurt you even more.

Bonus points if Martin and Arthur do the same, because even though my first thought for this was Douglas those two would be just adorable trying to protect Carolyn, who so obviously does not need their protection.

Extra bonus points if Carolyn finds out and is irritated but actually rather touched. And of course, teases Herc about it mercilessly.

I was listening to Fitton again (and again, and again...), and while tipsy!Martin is hilarious, especially with the singing, I'd like to hear (or read) more with tipsy!Carolyn. Giggling, making silly jokes, and possibly being more "soppy" than she'd usually allow herself to be.

Would prefer gen.

Bonus: if Douglas is the only one sober in the MJN pack, while Arthur, Carolyn and Martin giggle drunkenly and cling to him in the most insufferably sentimental way ;)

Martin & Molly Friendship

While I quite like the Martin/Molly Hooper crossover pairing, I'd also like to see something where they're just really good friends, because I think it would be sweet. :)

Maybe she's on a flight with MJN or something, and Martin instead of being his usual flustered self around a woman, is actually just totally relaxed because they've known each other for years, which completely confuses Douglas but actually he's secretly really happy to see his Captain content for a change. And Arthur, of course, thinks she's just brilliant.

(On second thought, bonus points for a blooming Arthur/Molly romance, but it's not a necessity. :))

Smithsonian

While in DC, Martin desperately wants to see the Air and Space museum, but doesn't want to go alone. Arthur prefers to see the Natural History museum, Carolyn wants to see the First Ladies dresses, and Douglas just wants to relax.

Eventually all four do go the Air and Space museum and have a rocking awesome time. Cue Martin being totally in awe of the Wright brothers' plane.

I've been there! My sister and her boyfriend, who want to become pilots (and are actually about to start going to flight school - I'm so excited for them! x]), dragged me there, even though I'm with Arthur, more of a Natural History museum person. It's really cool, and Martin would have a blast there.

Martin gets diagnosed with lupus. He becomes very ashamed because he starts to develop rashes on his face. Him and Douglas have just started a relationship. Douglas reassures him that he is still beautiful.

misunderstanding, car-jacking, whump, angst tw suicide mentions

A misunderstanding, plus a partially overheard conversation, and Martin is convinced he's being fired. He decides to beat them to it and leaves a resignation letter in the portacabin, then heads home, telling himself he'll get his CV in order and start really going after other flying jobs.

En route, his van is car-jacked. He is beaten unconscious and shoved out and down an embankment along an unpopulated stretch of the M5.

In the meantime, Carolyn and crew are baffled by Martin's sudden resignation, and some combination of what they think he overheard and what he's said the past few flights make them concerned he could be suicidal. Someone goes to his place to find him, he's not there. Panic mayhem and self-recriminations ensue.

Meanwhile on the M5, Martin is broken, bleeding and dying slowly at the bottom of an embankment and wondering if he should even bother trying to survive since his whole life is so cocked up and he's such a failure; in essence, retroactively becoming suicidal as he reviews his life, while struggling to stay conscious.

Happy comforty "of course you aren't being fired you daft sod" ending with group hugs preferred, but only after a great deal of work and pain on all sides to get to it.


TLDR; Martin thinks he's being fired, so he resigns. The crew thinks Martin's suicidal. Martin doesn't get home due to car-jacking. ANGST and WHUMP and PAIN and GUILT.
