Chatter Post II

Please see the most recent MOD NOTE and ADDENDUM

(updated 5 July)

New chat post, same rules. Brit-pick, ask questions, debate, gossip, gush and generally indulge in any fannish activity that does not fall under the category of posting or filling prompts. I hope you all enjoy it

The usual guidelines apply, but mostly:

-  Please be respectful to one another.

-  Don't bash other (non)anon's comments/questions/ideas/etc.

-  Have fun

Now go forth, chat amongst yourselves and enjoy. I am of course on stand, so if any problems arise, feel free to drop me a line.

And if you stumble across any plot bunnies here, please just drop them off home at the Prompt-Post, the rest of the herd will be overjoyed to meet them.

Or as they say in Limerick

It's been brought to my attention we are needing
A place for discussion, not reading
I hope this post will do
I'll leave the rest to you
And Beware of the plot bunnies breeding

Sorry if the poem is rubbish - I literally haven't written one since grade five.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

Living cliche

(Anonymous) 2013-09-07 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I live quite near a fairly large airport... and airport about which Douglas thinks passengers should raise their ambitions, in fact. (That line always slays me.)
I'm not directlynext to it, but we're close enough that the airport shuttle bus picks up at the end of my road. Often in adition to passengers there are airport workers and cabin crew waiting there. This morning when I went past, however, the entire bus shelter was filled with cabin crew, and two really peeved looking pilots.
...While a third really happy looking pilot seemed to have amassed an adoring audience of hosties and seemed to be holding some sort of anecdote-telling session of intense hilarity.

It's always nice to see that pilot stereotypes are still alive and kicking. lol

Research and stuff- question and request

[personal profile] wheresmycow2 2013-09-07 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to finish a story I started writing ages ago, but it's got all sorts of technical stuff and keep researching things I hardly understand. It's a good thing I'm not a pilot.

Anyway, reading this:

"The standard rule defines an East/West track split:
Eastbound – Magnetic Track 000 to 179° – odd thousands (FL 250, 270, etc.)
Westbound – Magnetic Track 180 to 359° – even thousands (FL 260, 280, etc.)"

I'd say 21,000 (FL 210) cruising altitude would be okay for a trip from Fitton to Holland? (Short flight, so not that high?) I have no idea whatsoever what a magnetic track is, but that flight would be eastbound, so, yes?

Also, I need a beta/Britpick. I know I'm supposed to ask elsewhere, but *bites finger nails* I don't think many people read the beta-wanted thing.

If anyone is interested: the fic in question is more or less finished, it's plotty and there's quite a bit of technical stuff, and it's (mild) D/M.

I think it's the best Cabin Pressure fic I've ever written, but then again, I often think that way about a fic I'm currently writing...

Anybody wanna beta?

What fandoms are you now in?

What fandoms are you now in? This place seems pretty dead so people must have found a new shiny fandom somewhere.

Re: What fandoms are you now in?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Lewis.

I took the Cumberbatch - Cabin Pressure - Allam - Endeavour - Morse - Lewis route, and Lewis is a) brilliant TV, better than Morse and maybe even better than Endeavour and b) it has more slash potential than any series I have ever watched and c) Laurence Fox.

Laurence Fox is my brand new imaginary boyfriend. Yes, I've dumped Roger Allam. And thank God this time the kids took it well (son hated me for leaving Nathan Fillion, and daughter almost cried when I dumped John Barrowman). I think they are both hoping I'll get back with Benedict Cumberbatch after my imaginary fling with Laurence, but for now, I'm lozzafoxed.

Lewis fandom also has lots of absolutely fantastic fics, awfully clever and plotty and funny.

Old prompts

(Anonymous) 2013-09-17 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
I've been basically going through the entire meme during the last few days, and found a few prompts I might want to fill. Only problem is pretty much all of them are over a year old... Should I just post the fill in the original part, or maybe re-prompt it and post my fill beneath? Or is there another way to go about it?

I'm new to this (as you might've guessed) and would really appreciate the help!

Re: Old prompts

(Anonymous) 2013-09-17 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
I for instance have described to get all notifactions, so I would see the fill even if it's written in answer to an older prompt.
( Which is good because I wouldn't want to miss anything :) )

And as long as you also post the link to your fill to the Filled Prompt post (even if it's a wip at first), I think people are safe to notice it.
Most will look there or have subscribed to updates.

I personally wouldn't mine a re-prompt either, seeing as it's rather quiet here nowadays, but maybe others would disagree with me on that.

Sorry, I have no idea if that was any help...

But please post it! And: Welcome here!

Wasn't there vague rumour about another christmas episode? I don't know about Allam and Cole but at least benedict's in the UK filming The Immitation Game so I guess it's not beyond the bounds of possibility to sneak in a recording somewhere.
At least once the script is written radio shows don't take anywhere near as long to record and edit as TV, so they could in theory cut it quite close to the line if that were the case.

So, I just had a really positive pitch meeting with Radio 4 Comedy bods yesterday. Still not 100% go - they need to check for any clash of subject matter, BUT. There's a good chance I'm going to be getting a 15m pilot script commissioned. SO THAT'S GOOD.

Cumberbatch and Allam are in "50 Years on Stage"

(Anonymous) 2013-10-21 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
There's a 50 year anniversary stage production for the National Theatre and Benedict Cumberbatch and Roger Allam are both in it, as well as a whole lot of other familiar and fantastic names. Guessing from the magnitude of the cast list it will probably be a lot of short monologs/dialogs etc from previous productions brought again to the stage by the original actors with minimal set dressing, and would be of interest to anyone with an interest in history of theatre or stage production in general as well.

It's a live theatre production on November 1 for anyone in London and loaded, tickets being £300 and £500 and limited in number. It will be broadcast on November 2nd on BBC2, as well as being presented in select cinema locations around the world via the NTLive program.

URGENT SPAG QUESTION

(Anonymous) 2013-10-25 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
What is the correct possessive form of Douglas? As in "The car belonging to Douglas is Douglas' car." or "The car belonging to Douglas is Douglas's car."? Are they both correct? Is one correct in the US and the other in the UK?

If anyone's around who can direct me to an answer asap, I'd appreciate it.

Re: URGENT SPAG QUESTION

(Anonymous) 2013-10-25 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Editor here.

Both are correct (for example, some publishers have different preferences and there may be stronger preferences one way or the other depending on country - US/UK/Australia etc) but if you want to be strict about it, go by ear.

ie: if you would pronounce the s, add it after the apostrophe; if you wouldn't, just end with an apostrophe. So in this case: "Douglas's" is correct.

The OED spells it out here: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/words/apostrophe#apostrophes_showing_possession

Unintendedly educational

Thank you, person who prompted the biscuit prompt today here:
http://cabinpres-fic.dreamwidth.org/6625.html?thread=12916705#cmt12916705

From your prompt I learned that in the UK a KitKat is considered a biscuit (here it's a chocolate bar and I peel the chocolate off with my teeth first, myself XD ) and there is an improper way to eat biscuits. It's a lovely prompt, and I hope you get a fill, but I brought this here to say I was delighted by the cultural education and didn't want to hijack your prompt thread. :)

Does anyone else who might be lurking here have experiences where a prompt has been educational without meaning to be?

Martin Crieff & Guidenstern Are Dead

The NT 50 show - wow, wow, wow.

Allam's monologue was electrifying. And The Rosencrantz & Guildenstern performance was just. So. Martin. It just really made me miss Martin.

Especially since both Martin & Rosencrantz both have a history with suspiciously samey coin tosses.

People with access to view the BBC online who haven't seen it yet - rejoice! It's on iPlayer. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03h8qms/Live_from_the_National_Theatre_50_Years_on_Stage/

Archiving question

[identity profile] writernon.livejournal.com 2013-12-08 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
If you had a bunch of really short meme fills (under 200 words each) that you wanted to archive on AO3, all that have different characterisics, pairings, ratings etc, how would be best to archive them?

All as a one chapter entry with divider lines between each?
As a single post but each as a separate chapter?
As several separate posts in a series where all the entries are unrelated?
As several seperate posts gathered into a collection?

Re: Archiving question

[personal profile] tracionn 2013-12-08 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say (and seen this done) either
As a single post but each as a separate chapter
or
As several separate posts in a series where all the entries are unrelated

But when those entries are short, I think I'd go for a single post with different chapters and list all the pairings & tags in the description section.

But yeas, one of those I'd say.
