Chatter Post II

Please see the most recent MOD NOTE and ADDENDUM

(updated 5 July)

New chat post, same rules. Brit-pick, ask questions, debate, gossip, gush and generally indulge in any fannish activity that does not fall under the category of posting or filling prompts. I hope you all enjoy it

The usual guidelines apply, but mostly:

-  Please be respectful to one another.

-  Don't bash other (non)anon's comments/questions/ideas/etc.

-  Have fun

Now go forth, chat amongst yourselves and enjoy. I am of course on stand, so if any problems arise, feel free to drop me a line.

And if you stumble across any plot bunnies here, please just drop them off home at the Prompt-Post, the rest of the herd will be overjoyed to meet them.

Or as they say in Limerick

It's been brought to my attention we are needing
A place for discussion, not reading
I hope this post will do
I'll leave the rest to you
And Beware of the plot bunnies breeding

Sorry if the poem is rubbish - I literally haven't written one since grade five.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

A 'thing' I would say is like going to a movie, getting lunch or something of the like.

The birthday party of a King is a bit more than just 'a thing.' What I'm implying is a princess taking a commercial pilot to a royal party (invites only I'm sure) probably means a lot more than taking him to a local cafe.

I asked about Kate and William because if that's what they did for their early dates, then I'll retract my question.

A birthday party is a thing. It doesn't matter who it's for, it's still a thing.

And who cares about Will and Kate? Seriously. Martin didn't seem to think they were moving too fast. Theresa invited him, so she didn't seem to think it was too fast. Why should it matter?

In fact, Martin seemed to imply a willingness to move to another country to be closer to her. So a birthday party was clearly just a birthday party.

You're assuming the birthday party was a formal event perhaps? Even monarchs have informal parties and picnics for their friends and relatives. Of which the fictional Theresa could legitimately be either. Just because the King of Sweden hired the location it doesn't mean it was actually a formal affair, nor would it be unless it was taking place IN Sweden, or being hosted by the Indian government in honour of the King of Sweden. I think it more likely (in this wholly fictional scenario) that rather the same way people can hire islands to have a private party on, he rented the Taj to enjoy an entirely informal birthday celebration.

I don't think taking someone to a birthday party is a particularly unusual second date, especially if you have free reign of your plus-one and you don't want to go solo. They just happened to be in the same place at the same time and there was a thing going on so she took Martin rather than go alone?

This. Theresa's a princess. Her friends aren't going to be Bill and Jane from down the pub. They're going to be other royalty and people of high status.

"Martin, here are my best friends. King ****. Queen **** and President ****. Oh look, there's Prime Minister ****! What a riot he is."

I assumed, yeah. I heard 'king' and 'Taj Mahal' and automatically my mind thought of richness that is so rich richy-rich-ness. I imagined armed guards, invites only, the press, ect. and I wondered,

"Um... having a princess taking a commercial pilot to a formal event where it'll get lots of news media might say too much about their relationship." But I don't know what royals do for fun so I wasn't sure if this did go a bit fast .

Royals do for fun pretty much the same as the rest of us, just with more money.
Princess Di took the young princes to a Laser Quest in the Midlands back in the early 90s, and Her Maj Liz2 in her youth well known for taking her friends on informal summer picnics in the country with just a basket of meat pies, sandwiches and a really big thermos of tea chucked in the back of a LandRover.
I think I'm right in remembering also the King of Denmark rides his bike around the place quite a lot, too...

Royals should have that on a shirt.

"I'm just like you... but with more money."

Even if Kate Middleton did go to fancy events, she's not exactly comparable to Martin. Her family are millionaires.

But where it matters in the UK - ie, class - she is just middle class, same as Martin. In fact, I believe her mother was an airline stewardess. Their relationship proves that it's unremarkable these days for royalty to date and marry middle class people. There was a time when the bride of the heir to the throne would have to have been another royal, and that wasn't even that long ago - Prince Philip, the Queen's husband, is the Crown Prince of Greece. When Prince Charles married Lady Diana, even though she was upper class, she was still a commoner, and that was considered worthy of 'haven't we all relaxed' comment at the time.

That's not what matters when it comes to how comfortable someone is slotting into that life. Millionaire Katie, who hobnobbed at Marlborough and St Andrews, is different to Martin, who stumbles over the fact Douglas and Arthur went to independent schools, even though they're both ostensibly the same class.
