At some point in Martin's life, someone deliberately and thoroughly destroyed an Airfix aeroplane model he'd worked on for months and finally gotten perfect, right in front of him.

Could have happened to Martin at any age, the destructive bully can be someone in Martin's family or someone else. Comfort would be really nice, even if it's decades after the fact.

PROMPT: I'm as much a fan as anyone of poor Martin being evicted and sleeping in his van, and Carolyn ending up paying him out of pity and guilt. But it has become a bit of a cliche in the fandom. So before season 4 (hopefully) gets him paid, let's have all the different, funny, weird ways in which he might finally end up getting a salary.

PROMPT: When Martin wasn't payed by MJN, his life was simple; he'd work to exhaustion just to break even, find sleep relatively easily, and repeat the process.

Now that he's payed, he doesn't have to work himself to the bone, but he has more time to reflect before he sleeps.

He finds himself to be very self-deprecating and very, very lonely.

I was listening to Fitton again (and again, and again...), and while tipsy!Martin is hilarious, especially with the singing, I'd like to hear (or read) more with tipsy!Carolyn. Giggling, making silly jokes, and possibly being more "soppy" than she'd usually allow herself to be.

Would prefer gen.

Bonus: if Douglas is the only one sober in the MJN pack, while Arthur, Carolyn and Martin giggle drunkenly and cling to him in the most insufferably sentimental way ;)

Martin and Douglas have been in an established relationship for a year or two, and for what ever reason (single pilot flight like Ottery st Mary?), Douglas can't be there to play 'Dad' when needed. Maybe Douglas' daughter gets bullied, she's in an accident and gets taken to hospital, the mother forgets to pick her up and she's miles away and on her own (my favorite, especially if the ex-wife hates Martin)- whatever happens, Martin steps up and proves he's a great Dad.

Prompt: Douglas discovers that Martin is a virgin and, being Douglas, mocks him about it. Martin doesn't take the mockery well and as soon as they return to Fitton, stalks away angry.

As Martin's lack of luck would have it, he is raped shortly thereafter. In trying to protect himself emotionally from the horror of it, he manages to convince himself that nothing truly bad has happened, and that he has simply managed to rid himself of his troubling virginity, and Douglas should have no reason to mock him any more.

But who knows what might happen when he informs Douglas of this?

PROMPT: Carolyn used to be a stewardess. She and several other stewardesses did a pin-up style calendar for charity when she was starting out, in 1965. Nothing much came of it, then she fell in with Gordon and forgot about it.

One day, when she has to stop by Douglas's place for some reason, she sees that calendar, lovingly preserved, somewhere in Douglas's house, and it's obvious he doesn't know she's one of the stewardesses in it.

Memory loss

Prompt: Martin loses his memory. When he wakes up in the hospital, he's surprised he lost at least three years worth. So when he meets up with Carolyn and Arthur, he treats them very formally, like he did when during his first year with them.

When he meets up with Douglas, he still sees him as a know it all ruffian who refuses to play by the rules. It takes Martin a little while longer to notice the ring on his finger.

Basically: Martin loses his memory. He's finding it very hard to interact with people he barely knows.
