Prompting Post VI

Please see the most recent MOD NOTE and ADDENDUM

(updated 5 July)

Welcome everybody. How you got here I have no idea but thank you for coming and welcome again, nonetheless . As you may have gathered this is a Fic Prompting Meme dedicated solely to the hilarious and oh-so-addictive BBC Radio 4 sitcom - Cabin Pressure. I'm aiming for this to be pretty anything goes - but in order for everything to run smoothly, there are a few guidelines. Don't worry - they're not too restrictive.

FILLING GUIDELINES

Please nest your fills.

This can be done by either posting each part as a reply to that part's immediate predecessor, OR by replying each time to Part I OR - well you get the idea :D

It makes it simpler for Enigel and myself to link fills in a clean and clear manner. Following these guildelines will be very much appreciated guys :D

REPROMPTING

Reprompting is allowed but please include the URL of the original prompt when you do so. It will make it infinitely more easy to Archive which would make both Enigel and I very happy :)

As for everything else

  1. Be respectful to one another. Disagreements are fine, but not everything disagreeable is trolling. If you suspect someone of trolling, just ignore it. If you cannot respond to a comment without attacking or trolling someone else, keep it to yourself.

  2. No bashing prompts. It might not be your cup of tea - but obviously someone wants it enough to go to the effort of requesting it. So just scroll past it.

  3. Prompt away as much as you like guys - seriously, go wild - but please try to fill as well.

  4. NEW - If your fill includes a major element that veers from the original prompt (crossovers, established universes, kinks, et cetera), please take a few moments to check with the OP that such additions are welcome. This has caused problems in the past and it only takes a few moments of your time.
  5. Please no RPF. I'm not trying to oppress you RPF writers and enthusiasts, I would just really like to avoid any legal problems.

  6. When you post a fill (or post a new part of a WIP) please go over to the Filled Prompts Post (if it is complete) or the WIP Post (if there are still more parts to come) and, following each post's guideline's, post a link to this fill or new part.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

+ Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

The angst! The longing! The destiny! The rescue through a sky god!
God, yes yes yes please. Yessssss.

(Funnily I just stumbled over a Mer!Martin drawing some days ago and it's lovely. For those interested:
http://kirbyhasapencil.tumblr.com/post/28520995847/omfg-this-request-i-had-way-too-much-fun-with )

I'd give my day portion of words away for a fill to this.

Sandman crossover

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The MJN crew interacting with The Endless, directly or in the meta Sandman way.

Martin and Desire (and its twin Despair)?

Arthur and Del and apple-tossing flavoured ice-cream?

Douglas snarking at the gloomy Dream King? (I prefer Morpheus to Daniel.)

(Death the character is fun and all, but I'd prefer no character death.)

Crossover with 'Inception'.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Cobb and his team need to perform an extraction on a Mark onboard another long transatlantic flight. The Mark is aware of dream infiltration however, and so to avoid having his subconscious hijacked, he hires a different charter company every time he travels. Somehow, Cobb manages to derail the Mark's careful planning and forces him to book a not-so private flight onboard a smaller, less luxurious charter plane.
How does Cobb go about securing MJN for this particular extaction job? Of course, everyone involved would have to be paid off handsomely for their cooperation and silence. What if this isn't the first time Gertie's been used for a job like this? What if Douglas and Martin are kept in the dark about the whole thing until one of them gets up to use to loo and finds all their passengers asleep and all hooked up to a contraption in a silver briefcase? And what would happen with the meeting of the two Arthurs?
Since this is Cabin Pressure, I would rather the fill be made of LOLs.

Fortune Telling Arthur

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope I'm not the only person to remember those origami fortune tellers from school.

But I just had this idea of Arthur making one and telling the others' fortunes with it. "Coffee chaps? And... umm... could you give me a number from one to eight... And pick a colour from green, red, purple and blue?"

What fortunes would he write in each of the sections do you think?

Re: Fill - A Battle Fought And Lost

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
So I'm crying now. :(
Oh God, Martin just listening to the message at the end...I don't know why, but that was the saddest part. :(

Op here

Yes, I would totally imagine Arthur with like, twenty bells. I also imagine he gave most of his away before he was even five. XD

FILL: The Little Things - 5/?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
5 – Catching Apples

There were raids on Relief Villages, sometimes. That was pretty scary. There were a few soldiers to guard each Village, but it wasn’t much. Talk about raiding parties increased once the phones were back up and running. Arthur didn’t know whether this was because it meant the raiders were able to organise themselves better, or whether it was just because it meant people talked more, and the more people talked, the more they were going to spread stories that weren’t entirely the whole exact truth. When the alarm finally did go up that a raiding party was on its way, nobody knew what to expect. Everybody panicked. Well – everybody except Douglas and Arthur’s mum, but even then, Arthur could see those same tummy churning looks they’d had in their eyes when they’d had to fight off the infected people. Herc and Skipper had gone as white as sheets, but even though Arthur would have thought they were all fighted out, they still grabbed what weapons they could and went down to the ground floor with the rest of them to defend the tower block. There were about a dozen soldiers with them outside. They had guns, and were shouting to the rest of them to remember they were hardened survivors, who had held back waves of furious Infected, not that that brought much comfort to Arthur. He hadn’t “fought” the infected that much – more just escaped them. And from what people had been saying, the raiding parties were even worse than the mindless hoards of The Incident.

In the end, the raiding party barely got close enough to see properly. The soldiers started shooting – first over their heads, which scattered them but didn’t make them stop. Then a few of the raiders got hit, and they either stopped to try to help their wounded or they ran away. What surprised Arthur was that they weren’t all just thuggish men waving meat cleavers around. There were a lot of women, and older people, and young lads and lasses, only just out of puberty. They looked skinny, and cold, and sick.

After it was all over, they all went back up to their flat quietly. They didn’t celebrate. It didn’t feel like any sort of a victory.

‘Why did they do that?’ Skip asked in a small voice, after a while. ‘Did you see them? They didn’t stand a chance. Why did they do it?’

‘Because they’re desperate,’ said Carolyn.

‘But we’re all in this together, it’s hard for all of us… we’ve never pulled that sort of trick…’

‘We,’ Carolyn told them all, ‘are very, very lucky. There’s around 43 million people in this country right now, all displaced, all living day to day on what rations they can get. We’ve managed to house about 10% of that number, so far. There’s other people still in refugee camps like that wretched leisure centre, and many don’t even have that. There’s a lot of people without so much as a roof over their head, still. So, yes. They truly are desperate. Doesn’t mean I’ll stand by and let them take all the basics we’ve managed to scratch together, but these are the people we’re all trying to help, when we clear more areas to make them fit to live in – when we fly about more food and medical supplies. Poor bastards.’

Arthur watched out of the window. A helicopter was whirring towards them.

‘Come to take the injured to the nearest medical camp, I imagine,’ said Douglas, watching the helicopter’s approach. ‘They’ll be fed there, at least. Doubt it’s worth it, though.’

‘Aren’t they going to arrest them?’ Skipper asked.

‘Where would they take them, Martin?’ replied Douglas.

They watched in silence that night, as the helicopter landed and took the screaming, stranded stragglers of the raiding party away.

-x-

The following week, Arthur came home from a long, tiring day clearing a housing estate in Withywood to find a particularly cheerful looking Douglas. He had that expression he generally had when he’d done, in his estimation, something even more clever than usual.

‘Hallo, Douglas!’

‘Hello, Arthur.’

‘Done something clever, have you?’

‘Oh, yes. Oh goodness, gracious, yes.’

‘Brilliant! Can I know, yet?’

‘Let’s wait until the others are back, shall we? Spam & tinned tomatoes with our rice for dinner, tonight.’

‘Wow – it really is a celebration tonight, isn’t it? Jolly good!’

Douglas waited until everybody was gathered and had finished their dinner before he revealed what it was he’d been looking so pleased about. And, everybody had to admit when they saw it, he certainly had every right to be.

‘Apples!’ Arthur exclaimed. ‘Wow! Brilliant!’

‘Fresh food!’ Skipper picked one out of the box. ‘Something that didn’t come out of a tin – I didn’t think we’d see the likes again – not for years.’

Herc bit into one, and closed his eyes in delight. ‘Mm. Apple that actually tastes of apple. Douglas, wherever did you get these? Tell me you haven’t been scrumping.’

‘They’ve got a few farms up and running down in Somerset. I was flying some fresh goods up to Manchester today, but thought – Hell, they were never going to miss half a dozen apples.’

‘So in other words,’ said Arthur’s mum, ‘you have been scrumping.’ She bit into an apple. ‘But in this case,’ she added, ‘you very much do so with my blessing.’

Arthur sat back as the others tucked in. He tossed his apple up and caught it in his other hand, with a satisfyingly solid, cool, feeling and the faint clap of the fruit’s skin against his own. He did it again. It felt good. Toss and catch, toss and catch… his mind started to wander, as it generally did… well, all the time really, but especially when he was tossing and catching apples. He found his thoughts going back to the raiding party from the week before.

Seemingly out of the blue, he blurted ‘But we got to have Spam for tea.’

The others all looked at him, in various stages of apple eating.

‘And is there Spam yet for tea,’ said Arthur’s mum. ‘What’s your point, exactly?’

‘Not just Spam,’ added Arthur. ‘Tomatoes, too. And we get soy sauce, and tea bags and UHT milk, and hot water and soap and clean blankets and DVDs… all these little things. Is it really fair that we get to have all these apples to keep to ourselves as well?’

The others paused, either frozen, staring at the apples in their hands or chewing thoughtfully.

‘Well, to be honest,’ said Douglas, ‘I was going to share them around a little. A couple for Zoë and her mum, some for the kids on our floor…’

‘But they’ve got all these nice little things that we’ve got, too,’ argued Arthur. ‘What about the people who’ve got hardly anything? What about the people like the ones who tried to get in the other night?’

‘Arthur,’ said his mum, ‘I told you, we’re helping those people out as fast as we can.’

‘But some apples would be an extra help,’ said Arthur. ‘Just a little thing. Sometimes, it’s the little things that just keep you going for another day when you didn’t think you could really face it before. Isn’t it?’

He rolled the apple from palm to palm for a bit, and let the others think.

‘There’s a refugee camp at Castle Park,’ his mum said quietly, after a while. ‘I’ve gone past it walking the dog a few times. Military tents – most likely people waiting to be processed, like us in the leisure centre.’

‘Bit cold for camping though, this time of year.’

‘Yes. Yes, it is.’

Arthur turned to Douglas. ‘Would you mind, Douglas? There’ll be other apples, but would you mind if I took the rest of what we’ve got over to them?’

‘Arthur,’ Douglas sighed, ‘there’s only about 20 apples left – you remember how many of us there were just in the leisure centre. 20 apples won’t go far. What if you start a massive fight over them?’

‘They can cut them up,’ Arthur protested. ‘Or I can give them to the soldiers – there’s always soldiers at those places – and ask them to cut them up and share them fairly. Quarter of an apple’s still better than no apples at all.’

Douglas sighed, deeply. ‘You can try, Arthur. You can but try.’ He pushed the box with the remaining apples in over to Arthur. ‘But do brace yourself – how do you really imagine these people will react to somebody coming over from a guarded, all-mod-cons Relief Village with the handout of a box of apples?’

‘There’s only one way to find out,’ replied Arthur, tossing his apple one last time before setting it back in the box, ‘but `I imagine by and large, they’ll say “thank you”. That’s what I’d do.’

The next morning, he took Snoopadoop for her walk, and made the refugee camp his first port of call. He and his dog walked out again half an hour later, completely unscathed and feeling pretty pleased. He’d been right. They had – by and large – said “thank you”.

As he walked back from the camp, he made the mental note that giving apples to other people made him just as happy, if not more, than catching them.

trust and control

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Fem(or Omega)!Martin loves slow sensual bareback sex, but only realized this when s/he had finally found someone s/he trusted enough to be safe. Douglas finds her trust more intoxicating than anything he's ever experienced.

The process of them discovering this trust please.

Female Martin

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Martin is a woman with a man's name, deep voice and androgynous-leaning-towards-male face and body, she prefers her hair short and doesn't like wearing skirts or dresses. She's never tried to hide her gender, but whenever people assumed she was a man, she didn't bother to correct them since it doesn't really matter to her.

One day, someone (her sister, a friend, one of the students from the student house, anyone you want really) decides to give her a makeover - subtle make up, a flattering hairstyle, feminine clothes, heels etc. She never intended to let anyone see her like that, but, of course, a certain first officer just happens to stroll by...

Mid flight heart attack.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Douglas has a heart attack mid way through a flight, while at the controls. Martin has to wrestle the plane out of a nosedive, Arthur/Carolyn has to attempt CPR - do they panic there and then, or do they manage to hold it together in an emergency? Up to you.

Followed by fretting and soul searching as they manage to land and Douglas is rushed to hospital. Again, I leave whether or not he makes it up to the author, but whether he does or not, I'd like the horrible incident to have at least some positive effects on the characters' lives.

OH MY GOD THE START OF A FILL!!!

And it's SO GOOD, I love this so far!

Sorry it's taken me a week to stumble upon it. Please, please carry on, this is fantastic!

Firefly crossover

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
What happens when MJN Air meets Firefly Air? What of the firestorm that is the meeting of Carolyn and Mal? What do Wash and Zoe make of Arthur?

I must have Martin/Kaylee. :)

Bonus points if Arthur and Jayne become inseparable friends.

bad day - anxiety - Arthur

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
No one at MJN is directly angry at Arthur, but everyone is angry or upset about something, and he's the one being yelled at by everyone to do things that he doesn't quite understand, do them right away, and do several conflicting things at once without being allowed time to deal with anything as the crew gets more angry and frustrated around him trying to fix whatever issue they're having. It's a hundred times worse than the flight service exercise he did with his mum in "Fitton" because it's his mum and friends, and it's for real not pretend.

He does make it through, but then as soon as he can, Arthur locks himself in the nearest lockable small room (loo, cupboard) and has a very intense anxiety attack, (can't breathe, crying, trying not to vomit, feeling like he's having a heart attack, nothing will ever get better) and tries to work through it on his own because everyone he can usually turn to is angry or upset or in some way distressed and he doesn't want to upset them more by being upset.

After a while, once the situation is fully resolved and the rest of them have all calmed down (except Arthur who is still spinning out in his locked room), someone finds Arthur and helps him breathe, calm down and cope.

Please? RTYIs welcome.

On it, t least a mini-fill. Give me a bit, because this is just wonderfully sad and perfect.

Oh, this is lovely. So sweet and heartwarming, and Hannah is perfect she is every inch her father's daughter.

Wonderful job on this, I really enjoyed it.

After being tracked down by some unsavory 'connections' from his smuggling days, Douglas has to go into hiding and help the authorities track them down. However he doesn't want his enemies coming after his family or friends to try to find him or draw him out of hiding, so he very publicly fakes his own death.

Re: Sick Douglas leads to Jealous Douglas Fill 2/?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-29 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Aww. Poor Martin is perfectly IC because he probably knows how shitty it is to be sick and since he feels like he is the only one who can help he intends to. Very cute.

Martin (or anyone) , long lost child

(Anonymous) 2012-08-29 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
The reason Martin isn't close to most of his family is that he was separated from them for a lot of his childhood/younger years.

Feel free to change Martin to ANYONE (including minor characters or OCs like say Douglas' daughter).
Inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25Gt6IgfKTc&feature=related

Bonuses (optional ): He got left behind when his family went somewhere new and unfamiliar to vacation. No one noticed until they were well on their way home that he was not with them. They actually DID miss him.

Martin gets taken in by an elderly couple or an elderly person who is desperately lonely and knows what s/he is doing is wrong but convinces her/himself its right. He lives a pretty great life there. Alternatively a very bad person takes him in like some type of serial killer because he was planning on handing him over to the police or sell him but due to Martin's spectacular mix of luck Martin worms his way into the persons heart and he/she decides to keep him instead.

His family isn't horrible and try everything possible to find them.

bees, which makes it difficult to
