Cabin Pressure Chatter Post One

Please see the most recent MOD NOTE and ADDENDUM

(updated 5 July)

Good evening ladies and gentlemen (and good day to you too, inhabitants of the other side of the world). As always - this isn't a captain speaking but I come bearing news nonetheless.

It has been brought to my attention today(/night) by our good friend OxfordTweed, that a Chatter Post might work quite well for our fandom.

I'm inclined to agree with him.

As such, here you have a brand-spanking-new post to chatter, Brit-pick, ask questions, debate, gossip, gush and generally indulge in any fannish activity that does not fall under the category of posting or filling prompts. I hope you all enjoy it

The usual guidelines apply, but mostly:

-  Please be respectful to one another.

-  Don't bash other (non)anon's comments/questions/ideas/etc.

-  Have fun

Now go forth, chat amongst yourselves and enjoy. I am of course on stand, so if any problems arise, feel free to drop me a line.

And if you stumble across any plot bunnies here, please just drop them off home at the Prompt-Post, the rest of the herd will be overjoyed to meet them.

Or as they say in Limerick

It's been brought to my attention we are needing
A place for discussion, not reading
I hope this post will do
I'll leave the rest to you
And Beware of the plot bunnies breeding

Sorry if the poem is rubbish - I literally haven't written one since grade five.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

Re: Another Roger Allam vid

Cool! Thank you!

Douglas's younger brother

Sorry about all the Roger Allam spam (oh hell, who am I kidding, I'm not sorry at all), but the wonderful Pudupudu has uploaded the first three eps of 'The Creatives' to Youtube. It's a 1998 sitcom with Allam as the lead, and his character is delightfully Douglassy (and insanely handsome).

First ep is here: http://youtu.be/pJqShZQ6YxU

And check out Pudu's Tumblr for more intelligent comments about this series.

Re: Artist looking for people to do Art fills.

[personal profile] thetravelinglemon 2012-10-22 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Did it get filled? Because if you don't mind too terribly, I might do a real minimini fill to go with my sketch. I kinda have this thing where as I'm doodling, I think of the full story and dialogue and what lead to that point in the picture so yeah...

Re: Artist looking for people to do Art fills.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-22 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Mind? MIND? :D Please please please! This community is very supportive of multiple fills, minifills, multiple minifills, and, um, any variations!

(I think it wasn't filled, anyway, not in that form.)

Tell me I'm not the only one in denial about Martin being/going bald.

Like, I know Finnemore is god and what he says, goes, but in this case, I just...can't.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
He just can't get a break, can he?

I mean, there's nothing wrong with going bald- it happens- but poor Martin has such low self-esteem already. I don't think he'll handle this well... =(

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Huh?

Or is this a spoiler from yesterday night? In which case, keep it to yourself?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Not a spoiler, as it has nothing to do with plot or the episode, just a comment Finnemore threw out. Its all over tumblr, too.

NOT THE ONLY ONE AT ALL!
It's niot canon!!! And I hope hope HOPE it says not-canon.
I won't believe it, ever.
Uhm...yes, denial here too.

I don't mind anyone being or going bold at all and if Martin would have been bald from the beginning, fine, BUT NOT NOW! We have all the adorable fanart and all the adorable fics and YES I LOVE THE GINGER CURLS and he's still so young and anyway, it's not canon.

This already makes my stomach cramp and I wish I hadn't known. The price you pay for being online, huh?

Ginger curls forever! Well, maybe not when he's 60 or so, but at least let's agree he have had until now and will have for a long time still have some ginger unruly curls. At least in fanon :)

Soon. Possibly within the week. :)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Tumblr is not exactly the paragon of good behaviour re: spoilers, so I wouldn't quote that as an example. Following the meme =/= "reading tumblr".

Good to know it was (just) a passing comment, though.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Chill! I'm surprised more people aren't leaping on it for the angst potential.

Constant wearing of a hat can cause bald patches and malnutrition can contribute to hair loss. How about stress-related alopecia? Trichotillomania?
So many possibilities!

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
It came from this non-spoilery review- http://arianedevere.livejournal.com/46956.html

Finnemore mentioned it in the Q&A after the read-through.

So far as I can tell, people have been pretty good about respecting his wishes to keep the episode contents secret, much as they were after the recording of S3.

Yes, you're right, I should be much calmer about it. And I'm going there with time and hope and can't even explain why it hits me so (well, I do have a 1,20mx1,00 reason in my living room but that's a different story.).

Anyway, yes, the potential is enorm.
But Douglas fingers going either tenderly or passionatly through Martin's hair is always such a wonderful scene in ff and I fear to lose it backdated.

This is the first time I'm in a life fandom where canon still happens and it's all new and very confusing.

Again, I'm apologizing!

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but the possibilities are only in fanfic / fanon, whereas the (perceived) ugly and/or ridicule will be in canon.

It seems just one more thing to pile up on Martin "Whipping Boy" Crieff.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
What a funny joke! That Finnemore is a funny fellow, I do say.

Just kidding. Martin is starting to sound like a short Prince William, actually.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think considering that it's never been mentioned on the show, and didn't relate to the episode in any way, Martin's hair status remains a thing that exists in Finnemore's brain but has never had reason to become canon. I suspect there are MANY such details that Finnemore hans for the sake of keeping his characters true to his own vision but that don't really impinge on the show itself. As such I think the characters' physical appearance has been mostly left to the audience imagination unless it relates to a plot point or running joke. Martin's height is often mentioned. The state of anyone's hair, almost never.

The topic only arose because someone asked about a TV version of CP and John's reply generally pointed out that Martin is physically very little like Cumberbatch. I suspect if that question had never arisen, Finnemore would never have mentioned that his vision of Martin is thinning on top. I'm not sure it actually makes any difference unless it gets included in an episode somewhere.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha! This clears it up a bit. Context is everything! (I envy those of you who were there :( )

The trouble with me is that I can't ignore the "true vision" of the creator, once stated. (That's my problem, not the creator's.)

...Well, unless said vision relates to the sexuality of a character. So I hope no one asks *that* >.>

John Finnemore just twittered:

In my head, it's just a little 'sun-roof' patch at the back. But it's never been mentiond in show, so you're free to ignore it!

AM SO VERY HAPPY!

Though I wouldn't ever dare to twitter to him about anything like that. But I'm also glad I got to read this here :)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
See, storm in a teacup ;) (Or bald spot from excessive hat-wearing. One of the two. lol.)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I quite like the idea of Martin going bald. I love when characters are flawed, both psychologically and physically. For me, it makes them more human and relatable. Humans get bald, have asymmetric faces, weird feet or big ears; they are overweight, or hairy, or short or too tall. Martin is a man in his late thirties, thinning hair is pretty common at that age.

(And if you're worried about the smut, don't worry, bald people have sex too ;) I'm sure Douglas/Arthur/Molly/Henry/Another Character of Your Choice doesn't mind at all and still find him very attractive)

I feel a bit silly now but I can't help being so obsessed with passionate about the characters I like so much. I so should get a real life.

Anyway, I promise to be calmer with the next news that frighten me :)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a whole blog post about it now.

http://johnfinnemore.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/the-hairline-of-captain-martin-crieff.html

I'm torn between laughing my ass off and feeling a bit sorry for John who clearly has no experience with this excitable entity called fandom..

*giggles* We are so crazy! And he is too, a bit.
That hair line chart! Totally something Martin would look at regularily would it concern him :)

I'm sorry for him too. One of the reasons why I couldn't ever write to him about anything like that.

So he has no current plans to mention it in an episode - BRILLIANT!

Thank you for the link!

it's all fun and games until someone loses a hair

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
He wrote "Yet." >.>

Everyone, be on your best behaviour, the Captain's hair is at stake! >.>

(For me, I just can't see Martin, with his high pitched voice and general... Martinness, as someone with the excess of testosterone that I learned[1] is a factor of pattern baldness. I've never met bald or balding people with thready and/or high voices.)
