Chatter Post

Cabin Pressure Chatter Post One

Please see the most recent MOD NOTE and ADDENDUM

(updated 5 July)

Good evening ladies and gentlemen (and good day to you too, inhabitants of the other side of the world). As always - this isn't a captain speaking but I come bearing news nonetheless.

It has been brought to my attention today(/night) by our good friend OxfordTweed, that a Chatter Post might work quite well for our fandom.

I'm inclined to agree with him.

As such, here you have a brand-spanking-new post to chatter, Brit-pick, ask questions, debate, gossip, gush and generally indulge in any fannish activity that does not fall under the category of posting or filling prompts. I hope you all enjoy it

The usual guidelines apply, but mostly:

-  Please be respectful to one another.

-  Don't bash other (non)anon's comments/questions/ideas/etc.

-  Have fun

Now go forth, chat amongst yourselves and enjoy. I am of course on stand, so if any problems arise, feel free to drop me a line.

And if you stumble across any plot bunnies here, please just drop them off home at the Prompt-Post, the rest of the herd will be overjoyed to meet them.

Or as they say in Limerick

It's been brought to my attention we are needing
A place for discussion, not reading
I hope this post will do
I'll leave the rest to you
And Beware of the plot bunnies breeding

Sorry if the poem is rubbish - I literally haven't written one since grade five.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

Like I said to the anon when they made that comment, I just looked on it with a misplaced sense of paranoia. It wasn't good. *sighs* I wasn't looking for an argument though. Funny, I never got an explanation for it from them. :/

It's in the past though. I just wanted to make peace with the people who might've saw and now thought differently of me.

Looking for a beta. Sort of.

[personal profile] crocodile_eat_u 2012-07-04 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
*cough*

I'm writing again. Actually writing. It's surprising me.

I'm working on a fic at the moment, for Cleo2010's Amsterdam prompt-

When strolling around the streets of Amsterdam Douglas drags Martin inside a sex shop, purely to make him uncomfortable but also to see if he can loosen him up a bit. What he hadn't expected was for Martin's eye to be caught by a display of impressively sized dildos and vibrators, he's practically salivating and definitely turned on. What's a first officer to do but sneak back and buy it as a present! Upon presenting it to Martin (for shiggles) he thinks that Douglas wants to use it on him and although he's a stuttering mess god he badly wants it. Douglas... well, he's straight (maybe Martin is too, ooh that would be good actually) but he's never one to turn down a new experience...

So, straight!Douglas fucks straight/gay!Martin with a huge vibrator. I'm sure there was more to it than that but... nope, this is all I want.

It's slow going, I'm not going to lie. But I have about 4000 words down at the moment. I'm looking for someone who can maybe give it a beta, and help me work out some bits of the plot. If you’ve read my stuff, you’d know my style except I’ve tweaked it a bit for this one. So just any help would be lovely. <3

Also as I'm a slow writer, I'm prone to writer's block and just generally despairing over it, so I need someone who's perfectly content in metaphorically whipping me till I get this done.

Look here for inspiration- http://www.oglaf.com/blank-page/ (SWF, well this comic is. ;))

Please and thank you. <33

Hooray! ;D
I hope you’re feeling a bit better.

I’d love to help you but I’m not a native English speaker. But I’m usually good at spotting typos and plot holes (just a bit wobbly with comma rules).
I also have no problems with whipping of any kind.
So, if you can’t find someone else that would be my offer.

Don't worry. I'd be seeing red too if I were you. Happens to the best of us.

BTW, I'm looking forward to your fics now that you're writing. You're one of the writers that I can rely on for hot, shamelessly dirty/kinky fic. Welcome back. :D

Oh that's brilliant! Thank you! I should be alright for brit-picking (as I'm a brit :)) and stuff, I just generally would need a bit of help with plotting and seeing if it's flowing or not.

You really did a heck of a lot better than I did when I saw red and answered to... Worst thing is I didn't want to get in at all and then... *sigh*

I guess that was a bad day for everyone. *hug*

I really can't be a beta, but I just wanted to tell you how pleased I am that you found your muse again!

I remember this movie.
My family watched it for one of our family movie nights; my siblings weren't impressed but it was nostalgic for me. I've got a thing for movies or tv shows from the mid-to-late eighties. But it has to have a good story and be done well, even though the effects aren't as good as we're used to them these days. Anyway. That's be so cute to see with MJN.

I don't think you were immature. That's the first thing trolls say when they finally get someone to reply to them, even if it's common sense. I agree with you. And, our meme fic is not substandard for any reason. Fans come from all over, it's common to see things that aren't British. If one has grown up in Canada, America, Budapest...they're going to go with the what they've been taught.

Anyway. *hugs*
I thought you did very well.
That person was the troll here, not you.
Take it from someone who's been named on fandom_wank. ;)

An idea...???

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Okay. So I've been thinking about this one for a while.
But would it benefit the meme to have an update post?
Like say an anon has a long wip that get's updates somewhat regularly - would it benefit the members of the meme for that Anon to post a thread linking back to the fic, and then do replies when they've updated with another chapter.

That way other's can simply go and check the update thread instead of gaining through pages and pages of fills to try and find the one they were keeping an eye on? or, if one is me, bookmarks.

Anyway, is this a good idea or a bad idea?

Re: How do you title your fic?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
God, I love that song. The Original version by Journey, not the version Glee did.
Anyway - that's a great technique! sometimes I do that too. I have seen a Sherlock fic that has taken some lines from Halleluia (there are different covers but the one I listen to frequently was for Shrek) as titles.

Re: Language

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm...
I read a lot of British classic literature and have seen both of these words used.
But, it's more a question of tense, Kneeled is past tense, whlle Knelt is present.

"He Kneeled before the King"

or

"He knelt as ceremony dictated before the King"

I have problems with tense. I go from past to present because that's just how I do it. I think I got the tense right, somewhat. Just don't quote me on that.

In other words, I think both American's and Britrish use these words.

Re: An idea...???

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
I so spaced that one. I shall use it. Thanks. Sorry about that.

Re: Language

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
But, it's more a question of tense, Kneeled is past tense, whlle Knelt is present.

Except in the example you gave, knelt is also past tense.

"He knelt as ceremony dictated before the King" is past tense. he knelt, back then, just a moment ago.

"He kneels as ceremony dictates," is present tense. He kneels and is kneeling, right now, in the rpesent.

Re: Language

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Kneeled and knelt are both past tense.
The present tense is kneels.

I think you're possibly confusing past and present tense with the active and passive voice, which is a whole other kettle of fish, and that's one of those things that requires a proper grammar nazi because while I vaguely understand the difference in a sort of instinctual way I really can't even hope to explain it.

Those trolls were trying to continue their fandom wank "good writers only" foolishness over here. You're much nicer than I would have been.
