Chatter Post II

Please see the most recent MOD NOTE and ADDENDUM

(updated 5 July)

New chat post, same rules. Brit-pick, ask questions, debate, gossip, gush and generally indulge in any fannish activity that does not fall under the category of posting or filling prompts. I hope you all enjoy it

The usual guidelines apply, but mostly:

-  Please be respectful to one another.

-  Don't bash other (non)anon's comments/questions/ideas/etc.

-  Have fun

Now go forth, chat amongst yourselves and enjoy. I am of course on stand, so if any problems arise, feel free to drop me a line.

And if you stumble across any plot bunnies here, please just drop them off home at the Prompt-Post, the rest of the herd will be overjoyed to meet them.

Or as they say in Limerick

It's been brought to my attention we are needing
A place for discussion, not reading
I hope this post will do
I'll leave the rest to you
And Beware of the plot bunnies breeding

Sorry if the poem is rubbish - I literally haven't written one since grade five.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

Small Fandom Bang - beta?

[personal profile] turkfox 2013-01-06 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm writing CP! I'm going to have at least 10,000 words of fic that'll need beta'd before the deadline of 31st March. I have to have my rough draft in by the end of January, leaving two months to edit it and make it something worth reading!

Would anyone be interested in volunteering? It's not so much a SPAG job, aside from the occasional odd word order (I don't quite think in order so it always sounds right to me even when it's awkward). The main job will be things like plot, places I could flesh things out a bit (I can get a bit like an instruction manual sometimes), things like that.

Re: Small Fandom Bang - beta?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-06 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to be in the center of hell for RL schedule just then, but if you post a query on the beta post here or on the main comm you might have some luck.

The true meaning of Birling Day.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-06 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
I had no idea "birl" was an actual verb until it appeared as the dictionary.com word of the day.

birl \burl\, verb:

1. To spin or cause to rotate.
2. Chiefly Northern U.S. Lumbering. To cause (a floating log) to rotate rapidly by treading upon it.
3. British. A. To move or rotate rapidly. B. Informal. To spend money freely. C. Informal. To gamble.

noun:
1. British Informal. An attempt; a gamble.

Looking at defn. 3 B. Spending money freely? Mister Birling is aptly named! I like finding clever bits I wasn't aware the writer did.

That's really neat. I wonder how he came up with Crieff and Shappey.

Bored With Life

(Anonymous) 2013-01-07 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Is anyone else feeling incredibly bored with their life? Ever since I landed what should be my dream job I've barely felt inspired to get out of bed in the morning. I guess I just never saw myself getting where I am so quickly and now I don't really have any long-term goals. I don't know what to do with myself, and I just keep thinking "is this really it?"

I feel awful because this is really frustrating me and I'm usually such a motivated person.

So who else is feeling the mid-20's malaise? Anyone?

Re: Bored With Life

(Anonymous) 2013-01-07 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
When I was in my mid-20's I was unemployed, in an abusive relationship and had no hope of anything, so well done you!

It's probably that since you've reached your goals, and no doubt put in a lot of effort doing so, that you need a new goal to strive toward. If not in your career, then something else. Find another challenge and go to it!

I'd like to thank the kind anon who sent me the lj thingy - THANK YOU! That was very lovely and gave me a big smile :D

And I like to thank all the authors and propmters and artist for having giving this meme such amazing works. You all are the fandom and it means so incredibly much to me and will do so, no matter if I'm active here or not.

I've no doubt you'll continue to be brilliant!

I however feel at such a low point that I might step back for a while. I thought I can keep my ethusiasm for this place here but seems I can't.
I don't even feel like feedbacking and if there's one thing that can reliably be deduced about me then it's that I do feedback, excessivly most often ;)

And a short announcement: I'm not continuing the archiving for this comm - so maybe if someone likes to keep doing it, the mods night help you.
Or I will if the mods allow and if you like to conact me.

I deeply appologizie to all who trusted me to go on with the archiving and I'm terribly, terribly sorry. I feel awful about it but I just really can't right now.

Have fun lovelies!!

It will be available worldwide for free, directly from the BBC on the BBC radio four iPlayer online, and will be kept up for about a week after the airing.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/

Poke around that site to get your bearings beforehand, or there is the Cabin Pressure page.

S4E1

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
SORT OF SPOILERY BUT NOT REALLY

---

My shippy D/M heart is all aflutter. Douglas let Martin choose a game he'd win, actually complimented his evil genius, and they tag-teamed Carolyn with the Tallisker Tallisker.
So many warm fuzzies on this topsy-turvy Birling Day in which rugby died.

Re: S4E1

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't Ship D/M really. But I Friend-Ship it especially, now. Look at them, working together, the sly-dog-and-slyish-protegee.

SPOILERS, BEWARE!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I declare this post to be the only post to post spoilers so other peeps who don't want to read them, can easily scroll by without fear of accidentally seeing them on another new post. So please everyone, keep them here.

Now here I talk about the episode, so avert eyes now!

Personally it wasn't the best episode, me thinks, but it was still quite enjoyable. I kinda saw the ending coming from a mile away, but having Arthur being so proud he ruined everything made me quite happy. I'm also surprised that it's been revealed Martin has been with MJN for five years now. And poor Carolyn... hasn't she learned she will never outwit Douglas?

They're all still morons though. "Look, Mr. Birling, from up there you can see the sea!" XD

You lot like Radio Comedy. Some of you like stuff I've done (This is Scribbles - you may remember me from such fanworks as the Zombie Apocalypse fic for the CP Exchange, Luton or the Case of the NotSherlock and more). You may want to combine those stuff-you-enjoy in one handy broadcast by listening to tonight's News Quiz. I was on their writing team for it this week. Two days of very hard work writing lots of material, for perhaps one or two jokes to make it through the finial edit. Still it's on R4 at 6.30 or iPlayer.

What do you think about over warning on fic fills

(Anonymous) 2013-01-12 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
So I think we're all more consered about proper spoiler's in our headers for prompts.
But I've just come from a huge meme and right now the conversation is all about warnings and triggers and stuff. And to me that sort of thing is really annoying. I don't mind warning for general stuff like dub-con and non con or whatever else is listed in the rules.

But sometimes I think people demand warnings for nonsensical stuff that doesn't matter in the story and I'm left wondering if they're just being trolls or if there is a really good reason for some rude comments.

Thoughts?
(this is a conversation on the subject and has no bearing on CP meme because we don't have this problem)

Avengers fandom? I bet it's the Avengers meme. That meme is so fucking stupid and I've just been waiting for it to die a fiery death so one of the other memes can finally get some traction.

Either way, over-warning is idiotic and counter-productive, and most people will agree on that, I think. This meme has always been really good about the required warnings, because they don't make you warn for bullying and stolen kisses.

Warn for the big ones, yes. Non/dub-con, self-harm, graphic violence. A few others, maybe. When the list of required warnings is longer than most prompts, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG.

(If this isn't the Avengers, tell me which one so I know to avoid it in future.)

I don't prompt much, but now that there is a prompt freeze I have a bunch of them. :(

Lol.
Isn't that how it always work. I have some too. I think that's normal.

I found this meme when it was still on LJ. Page four of part one, to be precise.

And now I realise that prompt page six has been frozen and we're awaiting part seven.

Blimey.
