Please see the most recent MOD NOTE and ADDENDUM

(updated 5 July)

Welcome everybody. How you got here I have no idea but thank you for coming and welcome again, nonetheless . As you may have gathered this is a Fic Prompting Meme dedicated solely to the hilarious and oh-so-addictive BBC Radio 4 sitcom - Cabin Pressure. I'm aiming for this to be pretty anything goes - but in order for everything to run smoothly, there are a few guidelines. Don't worry - they're not too restrictive.

FILLING GUIDELINES

As you probably all know - our meme now has it's very own database created and maintained by the great Enigel. It both catalogues each and every prompt that we post and provides links to fills. You can find it here: Google Spreadsheet

We also have a Pinboard archive which has been put in place by the lovely [personal profile] oxfordtweed in the place of our late Delicious Archive. This Archive contains a list of all the prompts this meme has to offer - you can find it here: Pinboard Archive

This is a great step forward in making our meme just a little more organised (but not too organised of course. This is Cabin Pressure) which is always a good thing.

So in order to make things easier to archive - Please nest your fills.

This can be done by either posting each part as a reply to that part's immediate predecessor, OR by replying each time to Part I OR - well you get the idea :D

It makes it simpler for Enigel and myself to link fills in a clean and clear manner. Following these guildelines will be very much appreciated guys :D

REPROMPTING

Reprompting is allowed but please include the URL of the original prompt when you do so. It will make it infinitely more easy to Archive which would make both Enigel and I very happy :)

As for everything else

  1. Be respectful to one another. Disagreements are fine, but not everything disagreeable is trolling. If you suspect someone of trolling, just ignore it. If you cannot respond to a comment without attacking or trolling someone else, keep it to yourself.

  2. No bashing prompts. It might not be your cup of tea - but obviously someone wants it enough to go to the effort of requesting it. So just scroll past it.

  3. Prompt away as much as you like guys - seriously, go wild - but please try to fill as well.

  4. NEW - If your fill includes a major element that veers from the original prompt (crossovers, established universes, kinks, et cetera), please take a few moments to check with the OP that such additions are welcome. This has caused problems in the past and it only takes a few moments of your time.
  5. Please no RPF. I'm not trying to oppress you RPF writers and enthusiasts, I would just really like to avoid any legal problems.

  6. When you post a fill (or post a new part of a WIP) please go over to the Filled Prompts Post (if it is complete) or the WIP Post (if there are still more parts to come) and, following each post's guideline's, post a link to this fill or new part.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

+ Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

I am completely incapable of writing anything angsty today. We got some great news yesterday and we're adopting a kitten next week. So here's a bit of gen fluff with the crew. Hope it suits.

Bombshell

“I was born in the wrong era,” Martin sighed. “Give me Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner over Keira Knightley any day. Or someone who’s starved herself down to nothing and then had silicone put in.” He shook his head. “If I want to look at bony and angular, I can look in the ruddy mirror.”

“What about Scarlett Johansson? Or that bombshell from ‘Mad Men’?” Douglas asked.

“Christina Hendricks? Don’t even get me started.” A slight pink tinge had risen on Martin’s cheeks.

“I had to re-evaluate my opinion of gingers when I saw her.” Douglas looked back at the photo on his laptop. “I remember watching ‘The Avengers’ when I was a lad. Diana Rigg was entirely responsible for my—awakening, shall we say?” Martin’s answer was a low, knowing chuckle. “But this little number would have given her a run for her money.”

The photo they were considering was of a girl in the height of Sixties fashion. Her dark hair was in a perfect flip with a slightly bouffant top. Her eyes were rimmed with black liner and false eyelashes, making them look enormous. Her slightly pouting lips were painted a succulent shade of deep pink. She was wearing a black catsuit with high-heeled boots, and it followed every curve of her hourglass figure. She was shorter and slightly less elegant-looking than Diana Rigg had been in the same sort of outfit, but looked a bit more approachable and fun.

With the anniversary of ‘The Avengers’ coming up, someone had not only dug out the old publicity photos shot before the show premiered, but also shots of some of the actors and actresses who had tried out for what would become the iconic roles. A few were names Douglas and Martin recognized, but most were unknowns. This girl’s name was listed as “Cara Lyn,” and neither man had heard of her. A quick search of the IMDB turned up only a few tiny roles and one old black-and-white head shot where she wore the same flip and similar makeup.

The portacabin door banged open in a gust of wind, admitting Carolyn, who looked decidedly put-out. “Our client requires us to remain on standby yet another day. I’m about to tell him to find another flight. The cargo we’re supposed to pick up for the return flight is worth twice as much as he’s paying us, but I hate to fly only one way for pay when we have the chance of getting paid for both ways.” She noticed her pilots then. Douglas was sitting at his desk, showing off his sleek new laptop to Martin, who was leaning over his shoulder. Something in their faces made her narrow her eyes. “You’re looking at porn, aren’t you?”

“It’s not porn if there are clothes,” Martin blurted out.

“More like a pinup,” Douglas answered smoothly.

“Do I even want to know?” Carolyn looked over Douglas’s other shoulder. Her lips twitched slightly. “They’ll put anything on the internet, won’t they?”

“Pics of some of the also-rans for Steed and Mrs. Peel,” Douglas told her.

“No wonder she didn’t get the part. Dumpy little thing,” was her dismissive answer.

“Actually, Martin and I were just lamenting the lack of women like her in these modern times. Martin’s tastes especially tend toward the zaftig.”

“Douglas!” Martin hissed, turning red around the ears.

“I have absolutely no desire to know anything about either of your tastes. Martin, is the flight plan filed?”

“Of course.”

Carolyn sailed into her office and closed the door.

Arthur entered the portacabin a moment later. “What are you looking at, chaps?” His expression fell slightly. “It’s not dirty, is it? That sort of thing makes me feel sweaty and peculiar. It’s not a bad feeling, but I like that sort of feeling better later in the day. Like right before bedtime—“

“Thank you, Arthur,” Douglas cut in. “Have you finished hoovering Gerti?”

“Yes! And I got most of the fishy smell out of the microwave from the Admiral’s Pies on the last trip. Now it smells sort of fishy-piney.” He came over to peek past Martin at the screen. His eyes grew. “How’d this picture get on the internet?”

“It’s an old photo of an actress who tried out for ‘The Avengers.’”

“Wow! I’ve only ever seen it in the old photo album Mum has in the back of her clothes cupboard on the top shelf. I’m not supposed to go digging around up there, but I was looking for a hat for the Silly Hat Party the Pony Club threw a couple of years ago, and she still has some from a long time ago that are pretty silly-looking now. Anyway, I found this old album with photos and stuff and that picture is in there.” Arthur wandered off to re-fill the coffeemaker.

“Cara Lyn—“ Martin breathed. “Do you think?”

“Cara Lyn, Carolyn—it’s entirely possible. Raising Arthur has certainly taken it out of her.”

They looked at each other for a long moment, then Douglas clicked the tab closed.

“I was filing that away in my mind for later,” Martin groaned. “I wouldn’t have ever been able to look Carolyn in the face again if I’d found out afterward.”

Douglas waited until Martin had returned to his desk and settled in with an aviation magazine. Then he crossed the portacabin and knocked on Carolyn’s door.

“What is it?”

He opened the door just enough to put his head through. “Just so you know—she wasn’t dumpy. Not at all,” he said quietly, then closed the door and returned to his desk.

In her tiny office, Carolyn smiled a little despite herself.

AW! I love this. Especially the "dumpy" part. Only Carolyn could call herself dumpy and get away with it. Poor Carolyn, I can imagine her being quite a young woman back in the day.
