Please see the most recent MOD NOTE

(updated 6 June)

Welcome everybody. How you got here I have no idea but thank you for coming and welcome again, nonetheless . As you may have gathered this is a Fic Prompting Meme dedicated solely to the hilarious and oh-so-addictive BBC Radio 4 sitcom - Cabin Pressure. I'm aiming for this to be pretty anything goes - but in order for everything to run smoothly, there are a few guidelines. Don't worry - they're not too restrictive.

FILLING GUIDELINES

As you probably all know - our meme now has it's very own database created and maintained by the great Enigel. It both catalogues each and every prompt that we post and provides links to fills. You can find it here: Google Spreadsheet

We also have a Pinboard archive which has been put in place by the lovely [personal profile] oxfordtweed in the place of our late Delicious Archive. This Archive contains a list of all the prompts this meme has to offer - you can find it here: Pinboard Archive

This is a great step forward in making our meme just a little more organised (but not too organised of course. This is Cabin Pressure) which is always a good thing.

So in order to make things easier to archive - Please nest your fills.

This can be done by either posting each part as a reply to that part's immediate predecessor, OR by replying each time to Part I OR - well you get the idea :D

It makes it simpler for Enigel and myself to link fills in a clean and clear manner. Following these guildelines will be very much appreciated guys :D

REPROMPTING

Reprompting is allowed but please include the URL of the original prompt when you do so. It will make it infinitely more easy to Archive which would make both Enigel and I very happy :)

As for everything else

  1. Be respectful to one another. Disagreements are fine, but not everything disagreeable is trolling. If you suspect someone of trolling, just ignore it. If you cannot respond to a comment without attacking or trolling someone else, keep it to yourself.

  2. No bashing prompts. It might not be your cup of tea - but obviously someone wants it enough to go to the effort of requesting it. So just scroll past it.

  3. Prompt away as much as you like guys - seriously, go wild - but please try to fill as well.

  4. NEW - If your fill includes a major element that veers from the original prompt (crossovers, established universes, kinks, et cetera), please take a few moments to check with the OP that such additions are welcome. This has caused problems in the past and it only takes a few moments of your time.
  5. Please no RPF. I'm not trying to oppress you RPF writers and enthusiasts, I would just really like to avoid any legal problems.

  6. When you post a fill (or post a new part of a WIP) please go over to the Filled Prompts Post (if it is complete) or the WIP Post (if there are still more parts to come) and, following each post's guideline's, post a link to this fill or new part.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

+ Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

His Dark Materials AU

I know that there's been a few of these, but I'm hoping that someone will take pity on a poor anon in love with crossovers and Martin whump.

Martin still has an unsettled dæmon. How this happened is author's choice. Maybe it's some kind of genetic or hormonal disorder or maybe his inner ear condition is actually some kind of weird Dust clog. Whatever the reason, it hasn't done Martin any favors and it's why everyone refuses to take Martin seriously as a pilot, he still has a child's dæmon.

Cue Martin h/c and maybe what it takes to finally make his dæmon settle.

I love this prompt, because I've been considering writing a HDM crossover for a while and when I try to assign daemons, I run across the problem that Martin's simply refuses to settle. Glad I'm not the only one.

Seconded!

A tad unsettling (1/?)

Usually, they're very good at keeping things consistent - one form for each place they have to be. Alone is an entirely different matter, and one that Martin will worry about in the future when he has less on his plate to worry about.

At home when he's downstairs with the students, Willow usually takes the form of a little green budgie, which is humiliating but seems to help Martin with the usual crippling social issues that he has to deal with on a day to day basis with people much younger and, well. Cooler then him.

His family think that Willow settled as a grey parrot, and they grudgingly admit that yes, Martin is very clever, even if his intelligence does seem to be focussed on one annoying subject.

At work, Willow is a swallow - and actually, if they had their way, she'd stay that shape. Swallows are beautiful, fast, agile and clever birds as Martin likes to point out to her at any available opportunity, so if she ever gets the urge to settle, maybe, just maybe, they could pick something very like a swallow.

"I promise, Martin," She chirps from his shoulder as they sit in the van, pecking at a little bit of the gold braiding of his hat. "If it happens, I'll do my best to aim at swallow."

And for a few months, this works. She stays swallow-shaped in front of MJN Air, and no-one is any the wiser. Martin actually begins to relax, thinking that maybe this will be okay. It’s annoying, embarrassing and worrying that she's never settled, but maybe it can be coped with on a day to day basis. No-one has to know. No-one ever will know, if he can help it, and really, isn't choosing to stay one shape sort of like settling?

~~~
"Martin." Willows voice was soft against his ear, her beak poking slightly as she nudged in closer. Martin fought the urge to bat at her, trying to concentrate on what the various dials and displays in front of him where trying to tell him about the weather.
"Willow, now isn't a good time."
"Martin," There was a slightly more worried edge to her voice this time, and she ruffled her feathers anxiously. "Martin, it’s important."
"What?" He glanced at her quickly from the corner of his eye. Just in his line of sight, he can see Kheera, Douglas' rather forbidding and elegant looking hawk daemon, sitting on the back of the First Officers chair and peering ahead to judge the wind speed of those clouds.
"Martin, I just," Willow squeezed herself closer, having to duck under his hat a little in her nervousness. "Martin, I can't- I have to shift."
"No." Martins firm response made Douglas glance over in interest, and then look back to his work. Martin reached up and let the tip of his finger just brush Willows chest, trying to sooth her feathers back down, his tone quiet and pleading. "No, please, just wait until we land and get to the van."
"I really, really can't do that." She hissed back, hopping on his shoulder in her agitation. She was fighting the strange, inner-itch that would compel her to change form - fighting it because the embarrassment Martin suffered would be just as bad for her as it would be for him, and well... Neither of them really wanted to do through that if they didn't have to.
"Please," She fluttered down onto his lap as he spoke, and he covered her with his hand automatically. "Please, Will-"
"Is everything alright over there, Sir?" Douglas asked smoothly. Martin nodded once, not looking down as Willow squirmed uncomfortably under his hold. He pressed her down more, ignoring the stifled feeling in his chest.
"Fine, thank you."
Words had never been spoken too soon.
With a horribly ungainly noise, a flap of orange feathers and, finally, a squawk, Martin found himself with a ginger chicken sitting guiltily on his lap.
The silence, Martin decided after it went on for about ten seconds longer then he was comfortable with, was actually worse then any imagined Richardson-level insult he could have imagined.
What comfort to him then, that it was about to be broken.
"Oh my God," Kheeras' hawk-scream of laughter made Douglas duck his head instinctively away from her, and her feathery form rocked on the back of Douglas' chair. Willow, embarrassed and guilty, ducked herself under Martins blazer with a few low clucking noises that only fuelled Kheeras’ hysterical laughter.
"Thank you," Martin lifted his chin in some semblance of dignity as his grip went white-knuckled in Willows feathers, making his back prickle and the hen to squirm in pain. "For your sympathy and support, as usual."
"Well," Oh, God, the humour in Douglas' voice was the last thing he needed right now. Was he- Martin checked. Yes, Douglas was smirking, reaching up to hold Kheeras’ beak shut with two fingers, an action that only muffled her slightly. "That's. A very unusual talent you have there, Captain."
"Douglas, don't."
"No, really," Douglas continued. "I'm sure it’s very, very useful."
"Please-"
"And," Douglas held up his free hand, Kheera still snickering behind his other one. "As it has absolutely no effect on your ability to land a plane, perhaps we ought to get on with that before we deal with anything else."
Martin hadn't been expecting that, and his grip on Willow loosened somewhat. She ruffled her feathers in relief and poked her head out, peeking up at him.
"But, we are going-" Martin started, tugging one of Willows feathers hard enough for it to detach - both winced, and Douglas raised his eyebrows.
"Of course we're going to talk about it." Douglas responded mildly, finally trusting Kheeras’ manners enough to let go of her beak. She mock-snapped at his ear in irritation, claws shifting on his shoulders for balance as Douglas half-turned in his seat, studying Martin for a moment. "It’s utterly fascinating, and something you clearly need help with - at least," He hurried to add, in case Martin had taken that has entirely more offensive then Douglas had intended. "In the concealment of the issue, that is. We will have to get her off the plane without Arthur and Maria noticing."
"Oh," Right, yes. Martin swallowed anxiously and turned his gaze back to the skies. Willow shifted on his lap, looking between her human and Douglas.
"Thank you, Douglas." She said after a few moments. Douglas, by this point helping Martin with the pre-landing checks, glanced over briefly in mild surprise, before looking back to his work.
"Not at all," He murmured, Kheera butting her beak against his temple. "Happy to help."
Not the OP, but I really like where this is going! I hope you plan for more?
