PROMPT POST PART IV

Please see the most recent MOD NOTE

(updated 6 June)

Welcome everybody. How you got here I have no idea but thank you for coming and welcome again, nonetheless . As you may have gathered this is a Fic Prompting Meme dedicated solely to the hilarious and oh-so-addictive BBC Radio 4 sitcom - Cabin Pressure. I'm aiming for this to be pretty anything goes - but in order for everything to run smoothly, there are a few guidelines. Don't worry - they're not too restrictive.

FILLING GUIDELINES

As you probably all know - our meme now has it's very own database created and maintained by the great Enigel. It both catalogues each and every prompt that we post and provides links to fills. You can find it here: Google Spreadsheet

We also have a Pinboard archive which has been put in place by the lovely [personal profile] oxfordtweed in the place of our late Delicious Archive. This Archive contains a list of all the prompts this meme has to offer - you can find it here: Pinboard Archive

This is a great step forward in making our meme just a little more organised (but not too organised of course. This is Cabin Pressure) which is always a good thing.

So in order to make things easier to archive - Please nest your fills.

This can be done by either posting each part as a reply to that part's immediate predecessor, OR by replying each time to Part I OR - well you get the idea :D

It makes it simpler for Enigel and myself to link fills in a clean and clear manner. Following these guildelines will be very much appreciated guys :D

REPROMPTING

Reprompting is allowed but please include the URL of the original prompt when you do so. It will make it infinitely more easy to Archive which would make both Enigel and I very happy :)

As for everything else

  1. Be respectful to one another. Disagreements are fine, but not everything disagreeable is trolling. If you suspect someone of trolling, just ignore it. If you cannot respond to a comment without attacking or trolling someone else, keep it to yourself.

  2. No bashing prompts. It might not be your cup of tea - but obviously someone wants it enough to go to the effort of requesting it. So just scroll past it.

  3. Prompt away as much as you like guys - seriously, go wild - but please try to fill as well.

  4. NEW - If your fill includes a major element that veers from the original prompt (crossovers, established universes, kinks, et cetera), please take a few moments to check with the OP that such additions are welcome. This has caused problems in the past and it only takes a few moments of your time.
  5. Please no RPF. I'm not trying to oppress you RPF writers and enthusiasts, I would just really like to avoid any legal problems.

  6. When you post a fill (or post a new part of a WIP) please go over to the Filled Prompts Post (if it is complete) or the WIP Post (if there are still more parts to come) and, following each post's guideline's, post a link to this fill or new part.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

+ Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

Stalker

(Anonymous) 2012-05-27 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
There's a man who is interested in Mrtin at the airfield. At first Martin is flattered, but the man is downright creepy in his advances. He refuses to take NO for an answer. Martin tells him he can't because he's in a relationship with Douglas.

Martin begs Douglas to play along, just keep up the act in front of the man.

They're lovely

(Anonymous) 2012-05-27 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
This kinkmeme/prompt place is sooo nice :D It's not scary like Sherlock kinkmeme and the color scheme just relaxes me. Since everyone is always so nice here, and there are such wonderful fills, I'd like to prompt something.

Martin's having an awful day; his van broke down, he had to walk to GERTI in the rain, a dog chased him, and he's near tears when he climbs onboard.

Douglas meets him there and he sees a thousand ways to insult Martin, but the watery consistency of his eyes stops him. For once he's nice to him, really nice, and at first Martin doesn't really get it/believe it. Fluff please, pick the ending however you wish to.

Or, if you're an Arthur/Martin person, Author cheers him up with his absolute silly cheeriness. Fluffy friendship with Dougie would be nice, too.

TLDR; Martin has a bad day and Douglas or Arthur (or both) cheer him up.

Oh, bb--it can get pretty scary (a good many of us are perverts and omegaverse whores just like in every kink meme)--we just prefer to keep our drama in our fics for the most part.

#/1 times Carolyn attempted to conquer Donna Reed

[identity profile] aura218.livejournal.com 2012-05-27 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
So, Carolyn doesnt' seem the most ... domestic of women. And we adore her fiesty feminist spirit. But she must have done that stuff at some point -- after all, Arthur STILL can't feed himself. And even if there was hired help, they couldn't have stuck around for long, money wise.

THUS I PROMPT YOU WITH:

# times Carolyn attempted to do wife/mother/domestic stuff and 1 time she pulled it off.

Consequenes

(Anonymous) 2012-05-27 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Douglas never cared, did he? Not really.

"Oh. Oh."

"Martin, I didn't—"

"No, it's - it's all right. I - I'll just...be off."

"..."

"Wow. Skip was crying. That's - that's not very brilliant."

Prompt: I'd like to see Douglas manipulating Martin again for his own gain/to protect himself? Martin finds out in front of Douglas due to something Arthur says, and it's crippling.

Arthur, who was picked on as a kid (though not for being gay), does an It Gets Better video.

Sort of inspired by this (http://cabinpres-fic.dreamwidth.org/409.html?thread=399513#cmt399513) unfilled prompt from the first meme, requesting Youtube motivational speaker Arthur.

Douglas is getting married for the fourth time, to a woman he doesn't love that much, but he hates being alone enough to make up for that.

The wedding, to which he invited everyone from MJN, goes fine, until the 'Speak now or forever hold your peace' part.... where Martin decides he just must speak up.

I'd like to see Martin go into heat planning for a child with Douglas. Of course, complications on Douglas' side to get to him or something might make it fun ;)

Living isn't for the lonely.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-27 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Martin's life is awful; to top it off, he's just been evicted. Why try? Why even try? So he uses the last bit of his money to buy a knife - just because he can - and slits his wrists. Inside GERTI. With a suicide note on the controls. Douglas finds him in his chair, close to death. Cue whump and comfort and angry/protective Douglas.

Icarus

(Anonymous) 2012-05-28 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Martin is in fact, Icarus. He is doomed forever to wander the earth, feeling the urge to fly and never being able to. When aeroplanes were invented, he was so happy. It's not the same, but it's the closest he's ever going to get.

FILL: But the father, now no longer a father

[personal profile] sc010f 2012-06-05 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Ovid got it wrong. His father's last cry to him wasn't, "Icarus, my Icarus, in what country shall I seek you?"

But Ovid was really, at his heart, a soppy old romantic.

Instead, the last thing Icarus heard from his father was, "I told you not to fly too close to the sun, didn't I?"

And, okay, he was right. Obviously. And it would have been a great deal easier if Icarus had died there, drowned in the sea that bears his name. But that wasn't how Icarus' life worked. Instead, a bored sea nymph comes to his rescue and tows him to dry land. And then enslaves him for a couple of centuries, but it's the sort of price that one has to pay when one is rescued by nymphs – ask Ulysses, he'll tell you.

As the centuries turn, Icarus hopes and hopes that his life will improve. But no, it's not how his life works now, even. Oh, no... mechanical aviation gets invented and Icarus thinks "I can fly again!" and then it takes him one hundred and five years to actually get his CPL and PPL. That's... Icarus, now going by the more common name of "Martin", Martin's lost track of how many times he's failed the various tests.

Every time he did, though, he could hear his father's voice, "Icarus, I told you..."

Thousands of years had at least softened the blow of that last comment. And in fairness, Martin had got a bit carried away that first time. He does realize that, now.

But it was flying. Minos could control everything on land and sea, but he couldn't control the air, his father had remarked. And oh... every night Martin would pray that he'd one day be able to fly again. To be that free.

And then, thanks to Carolyn Knapp-Shappey and her questionable largess, he can fly again. And it's... well, it's not waxen wings, but it's close enough. Even with Douglas, who would have a series of heart attacks, Martin is certain, if he found out that Martin was the son of the first good pilot in history (and of course that he himself was the first bad one). Making fun of the man-with-a-van business name was bad enough.

As it stands, Martin's attention is focused on trying to find a rhyme for "Boston" when the bird-strike happens. GERTI bucks and careens under his grasp as he struggles to remain calm. The cross winds are hideous, Douglas' face is green, and Neptune only knows what's going on in the cabin, but for once, once, Icarus is determined to make his old dad proud. And for once, even more so than his attempt at Douz, Icarus is in control.

"Do you want me to take the landing, Martin?"

"No."

"All right..."

***

And nursing his cold cup of horrible not-coffee, Martin can just hear his father's voice.

"Well done, boy. Well done."

Oh captain, my captain

(Anonymous) 2012-05-28 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
There's a popular song that's been playing on the radio for the past ten years called, 'Oh captain, my captain'. Which tells the story of a young man, desperate to fly and has to settle for imagination.

Martin hates this song. Douglas finds it's amusing because the song does seem to resemble Martin a lot and he likes to hum it around him whenever he can.

Douglas finds out why Martin hates the song. Because it IS about him. A friend in university wrote the song as a joke but then it got super popular and now he's a major millionaire super star while Martin is... Oh captain, my captain.

Basically: A popular song nearly everyone on the planet knows about is based off Martin's life.

Human body pillow

(Anonymous) 2012-05-28 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
When Douglas is overseas, he sleeps terrible. Problem is he's used to sharing a bed with someone else, used to holding someone in his arms. Hugging a pillow occasionally works, but not all the time. Now that's he's divorced, sleeping at home is just as bad.

Carolyn books a room for Martin and Douglas. They find it only has one bed. Not that big of a problem, it's a pretty big bed. They go to sleep. Douglas wakes up in the middle of the night, pulling Martin into an embrace. It feels so damn right, Douglas has the best sleep he's had in forever.

Martin is a little embarrassed, but understandable. He thinks it won't happen again. He doesn't know Douglas is now plotting ways to get Martin to sleep with him again.

The woman (not a sherlock prompt)

Everyone has somebody, in their hearts, whom they consider as The Woman. It might be their mom, it might be their first love, it might even be just a random stranger. Who are these women?
still_not_ginger: (Default)

FILL: The woman (not a sherlock prompt)

[personal profile] still_not_ginger 2012-05-28 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
Martin

When he was thirteen, most of the boys in his class were chasing after girls, and buying or, more frequently, stealing porn magazines. They were always talking about girls, and little else. He did find Demi Moore attractive, though he was more of a Wynona Ryder kind of guy, but he didn’t think it was justified to be talking about them as often – and as lewdly- as his classmates did. They just weren’t that interesting.

There was one exception, though.

Crouching under the covers with his flashlight, Martin stared at the magazine clipping of the woman of his dreams. Short hair, not particularly beautiful or sexy, she did look a bit boyish, but he didn’t care. She was perfect, with her smile and adventurous gaze, and the helmet and goggles.

If only he’d been born earlier.

Sometimes he dreamed that, once he was older, he would get lost at sea, like her, and maybe end up wherever she was now.

Amelia.

Now that was a woman he could talk about.

Carolyn

There was a woman in her circle of acquaintances that never quite fit in, and was never really accepted. Oh, she was from a good family, a very good family, and still had all her money. It wasn’t that sort of snubbing, she was just too different.

She was always well dressed, but never looked like the others. She always had something interesting to say, but was never up to date with the latest gossip. She wasn’t cruel to the maids, but neither was she one of those that treated the help like poor little things that deserved her pity. She was married, had a child, but she didn’t seem to have been absorbed and consumed by either.

Carolyn wasn’t her friend; Gordon hated her with a passion for some reason she couldn’t fathom, and it would be a long time before she did something Gordon didn’t approve of.

When she finally left Gordon, though, years later than she should have, her circle of acquaintances seemed to shrink considerably, and she couldn’t say she cared much.

One day, walking home from the shop, she saw her, walking opposite her. She was older now, but still looked so… whole, so independent. They didn’t stop to say hello; they didn’t know each other that well. Still, this time Carolyn felt no shame in looking at her in the eye as they passed each other, and it earned her a small smile and a nod.

Arthur

His mum also called him an idiot often enough. Well, he was a bit of an idiot, so he didn’t mind. But somehow, when his mum said it, it didn’t sting like when the others said it.

His mum would yell at him to shut up, but Arthur could always tell it was because she was tired, or had a headache. It never felt like she couldn’t stand him, just because it was him, like with the others.

His mum was mean to him at times, and Arthur always took it in stride because, while the others were mean to him, it was only to him. His mum was mean to everyone at times.

She never, not once, treated him like a frail thing that could break at the barest touch, either. If she thought he could do something, she would push him relentlessly, even when he thought he couldn’t. She was almost always right, of course.

She sometimes seemed to forget he was older now, though. That was ok, sometimes he forgot he was older, too. It was more fun. And he liked that she some times still came to tuck him to bed and kiss him good night.

But most importantly, on those rare occasions that Arthur had felt down, she just stayed quiet and hugged him.

Douglas

Douglas loved women.

Their softness, their roundness, their gentleness.

Douglas of a thousand stewardesses.

Two marriages and counting (He had already met number three.)

He just loved them all.

But who would have guessed that one day, one woman would be able to claim his heart like no other? That the one woman would make all the others pale in comparison? And a bald, chubby, gurgling one, at that.

Standing behind the maternity glass, Douglas stared at the little pink bundle and knew, without a shadow of a doubt, he’d just met the love of his life.

Fool me twice

(Anonymous) 2012-05-28 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Douglas is a monster, kept in chains within the bowels of a cave forbidden from outsiders. He's known to use his sharp tongue to Jedi-mind trick people into doing his work.

The Knapp-Shappey family are immune to his mind tricks and have been assigned to keep watch over him. But when it was discovered a simple lie could fool Arthur, people scrambled to find another person who is immune to keep watch over the beast. Martin Crieff is immune.

Cue scenes in which Douglas tries to talk his way into Martin's head, his heart, to get him to set him free.

I love AUs and I really, really like this prompt :D

Seconded!

The power of heart

(Anonymous) 2012-05-28 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Arthur has the ability to see the hearts of people. If they are kind and generous, they look beautiful to him, like an angel. But if the person is mean and horrid, they look like a monster.

Since many people are neither evil nor saintly, they land somewhere in between. Some have horns due to stealing money when they were younger, but have butterflies on their skin because they once saved a life of a child. Some have angel wings, while having sharp nails covered in blood.

What do Douglas, Martin, and Carolyn look like?

Stolen baby

(Anonymous) 2012-05-28 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Douglas has never known his first child. The day after the baby was born, the mother kidnapped the baby and ran. To this day, neither the mother nor baby has been found.

All Douglas has to identify his son was the three moles across his lower back. Like Orion's belt.

While sharing a room, Martin takes off his shirt. Douglas immediately sees the three moles, in a perfect line, on his back.

It couldn't be...

Inspired by above prompt.

Carolyn is not Arthur's mother. She's his older sister.

Daddy

(Anonymous) 2012-05-28 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
The times Arthur called Gordon as 'dad' or as 'daddy'.

Shaving

(Anonymous) 2012-05-28 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
What does Martin spend most of his money on? Shaving items. Martin grows facial hair so fast he could have a full blown beard by the end of the day. One day, due to a skin infection or something, Martin is not allowed to shave/use shaving cream for a week.

Cue Martin having a beard that rivals those soldiers you see in American civil war pictures and Douglas laughing his ass off.
