(updated 6 June)

Welcome everybody. How you got here I have no idea but thank you for coming and welcome again, nonetheless . As you may have gathered this is a Fic Prompting Meme dedicated solely to the hilarious and oh-so-addictive BBC Radio 4 sitcom - Cabin Pressure. I'm aiming for this to be pretty anything goes - but in order for everything to run smoothly, there are a few guidelines. Don't worry - they're not too restrictive.

FILLING GUIDELINES

As you probably all know - our meme now has it's very own database created and maintained by the great Enigel. It both catalogues each and every prompt that we post and provides links to fills. You can find it here: Google Spreadsheet

We also have a Pinboard archive which has been put in place by the lovely [personal profile] oxfordtweed in the place of our late Delicious Archive. This Archive contains a list of all the prompts this meme has to offer - you can find it here: Pinboard Archive

This is a great step forward in making our meme just a little more organised (but not too organised of course. This is Cabin Pressure) which is always a good thing.

So in order to make things easier to archive - Please nest your fills.

This can be done by either posting each part as a reply to that part's immediate predecessor, OR by replying each time to Part I OR - well you get the idea :D

It makes it simpler for Enigel and myself to link fills in a clean and clear manner. Following these guildelines will be very much appreciated guys :D

REPROMPTING

Reprompting is allowed but please include the URL of the original prompt when you do so. It will make it infinitely more easy to Archive which would make both Enigel and I very happy :)

As for everything else

  1. Be respectful to one another. Disagreements are fine, but not everything disagreeable is trolling. If you suspect someone of trolling, just ignore it. If you cannot respond to a comment without attacking or trolling someone else, keep it to yourself.

  2. No bashing prompts. It might not be your cup of tea - but obviously someone wants it enough to go to the effort of requesting it. So just scroll past it.

  3. Prompt away as much as you like guys - seriously, go wild - but please try to fill as well.

  4. NEW - If your fill includes a major element that veers from the original prompt (crossovers, established universes, kinks, et cetera), please take a few moments to check with the OP that such additions are welcome. This has caused problems in the past and it only takes a few moments of your time.
  5. Please no RPF. I'm not trying to oppress you RPF writers and enthusiasts, I would just really like to avoid any legal problems.

  6. When you post a fill (or post a new part of a WIP) please go over to the Filled Prompts Post (if it is complete) or the WIP Post (if there are still more parts to come) and, following each post's guideline's, post a link to this fill or new part.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

+ Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

It didn’t take long for the fire trucks to arrive, but by that time the building was doomed and Martin stood out on the sidewalk, watching as the flames licked up the walls, lighting up the night sky. There was an ambulance in addition to the fire trucks and one of the paramedics had thrown an orange blanket over his shoulders. They’d wanted to check him over for smoke inhalation when he kept coughing, but Martin waved them away, too busy watching the building go down in flames as the fire crews tried to stop it from spreading.

“Oh, Martin, Martin!” Someone called, and Martin jerked his head around, trying to find out who was saying his name.

Coming towards him at a brisk pace was Carolyn with Douglas and Arthur both in tow, Arthur pointing out the building and his mouth moving frantically as Douglas nodded and urged him along.

Blinking, Martin shook his head before looking again, but they were still there, worry lines marring Carolyn’s face. “Carolyn?” Martin questioned. “What are you doing here?”

“Douglas saw it on the news and recognized the address, then he rang me wanting to know if I’d heard anything.” Carolyn informed him, flashing lights and flame illuminating her face.

Martin’s brow furrowed in confusion before he turned to Douglas. “What, but… what were you doing watching the news at this hour?”

Douglas shrugged. “I couldn’t sleep.”

“And it’s a good thing he couldn’t, it looks like.” Arthur broke in, head tilted back as he looked at the building. “What about you, how are you doing, Skip?”

“Me?” Martin asked, pulling the blanket tighter around him defensively. “Why, I’m fine. Perfectly fine. Nothing’s wrong with me at all.”

Carolyn tilted her head and leveled a look at Martin, one that made him feel like a small and naughty child that had been caught in a lie. Turning his face away, Martin joined Arthur in watching the building as it continued to burn, everything inside turning into plumes of black smoke that drifted up into the sky before vanishing.

“Well that’s good to hear,” Arthur said easily. “I mean, after all, it doesn’t look like they’re getting anything out that thing in one piece. Everything’s completely gone up, I should say.”

“Yes,” Martin agreed weakly. “Everything.”

And with that, Martin suddenly realized that he was a man standing in the street, wrapped in a blanket and wearing a pair of pajamas which were now the only things he owned. “Oh, god.” He whispered. “Everything. I’ve lost everything. My books, my music, my clothes… my uniform – my Captain epaulets.

On the last word, Martin started to shaking, his sight blurring as tears began to run down his face and sobs rose in his throat. He felt a pair of arms wrap around him and pull him close, a soft, female voice making shushing noises and saying “There, there, it’s going to be alright.”

Martin wasn’t quite sure he believed her, but he clung to her words because in that moment, her promise felt like all he had left to hope for.

I love you so much. This was so good and well written and in character and ... XD I'm just so happy.

Thank you - THANK YOU for filling my prompt. You did such a great job - seriously, I've read this over so many times. And it's so believable.

And Martin was heroic - saving the people in his building like that - and Carolyn and the team all banding together and rushing to him and Carolyn - OH CAROLYN - I love her even more than I did before, and I didn't know that that was possible. She is - and forever will be the Alpha dog in my mind.

Oh god. I've rambled on quite a lot haven't I. I just what to tell you that I love this. I really, really, really, really, really do - Thank you so much!!! :D

M

Oh, no. Oh no oh no, our poor Martin. :( This was wonderfully inspired and the dream sequence very well-written. I can just imagine Martin having nightmares after Ipswich. I mean, he must have had. Poor thing. You've got me crying now. Lovely ficlet.
