Please see the most recent MOD NOTE

(updated 6 June)

Welcome everybody. How you got here I have no idea but thank you for coming and welcome again, nonetheless . As you may have gathered this is a Fic Prompting Meme dedicated solely to the hilarious and oh-so-addictive BBC Radio 4 sitcom - Cabin Pressure. I'm aiming for this to be pretty anything goes - but in order for everything to run smoothly, there are a few guidelines. Don't worry - they're not too restrictive.

FILLING GUIDELINES

As you probably all know - our meme now has it's very own database created and maintained by the great Enigel. It both catalogues each and every prompt that we post and provides links to fills. You can find it here: Google Spreadsheet

We also have a Pinboard archive which has been put in place by the lovely [personal profile] oxfordtweed in the place of our late Delicious Archive. This Archive contains a list of all the prompts this meme has to offer - you can find it here: Pinboard Archive

This is a great step forward in making our meme just a little more organised (but not too organised of course. This is Cabin Pressure) which is always a good thing.

So in order to make things easier to archive - Please nest your fills.

This can be done by either posting each part as a reply to that part's immediate predecessor, OR by replying each time to Part I OR - well you get the idea :D

It makes it simpler for Enigel and myself to link fills in a clean and clear manner. Following these guildelines will be very much appreciated guys :D

REPROMPTING

Reprompting is allowed but please include the URL of the original prompt when you do so. It will make it infinitely more easy to Archive which would make both Enigel and I very happy :)

As for everything else

  1. Be respectful to one another. Disagreements are fine, but not everything disagreeable is trolling. If you suspect someone of trolling, just ignore it. If you cannot respond to a comment without attacking or trolling someone else, keep it to yourself.

  2. No bashing prompts. It might not be your cup of tea - but obviously someone wants it enough to go to the effort of requesting it. So just scroll past it.

  3. Prompt away as much as you like guys - seriously, go wild - but please try to fill as well.

  4. NEW - If your fill includes a major element that veers from the original prompt (crossovers, established universes, kinks, et cetera), please take a few moments to check with the OP that such additions are welcome. This has caused problems in the past and it only takes a few moments of your time.
  5. Please no RPF. I'm not trying to oppress you RPF writers and enthusiasts, I would just really like to avoid any legal problems.

  6. When you post a fill (or post a new part of a WIP) please go over to the Filled Prompts Post (if it is complete) or the WIP Post (if there are still more parts to come) and, following each post's guideline's, post a link to this fill or new part.

REALLY IMPORTANT ADDENDUM

According to numerous Child Safety laws it is illegal to provide pornographic material to minors. Seeing that the majority of the stuff we have here is rather adult in nature, this Meme is consequently an 18+ zone. Failing to comply to this rule could result in the Meme getting shut down. So if you're here and you're under 18 please back button now.

+ Please do not post anything regarding minors in a sexual situation. It really doesn't matter how tasteful or crass it is, there are laws that classify that sort of thing as child pornography and as such, I'm afraid we're going to have to go with the attitude that safe is better than sorry.

It really is VERY important that these rules are upheld as the consequences are severe.

Other than that - go crazy guys. Any problems please just message me and I'll try my best to work it out.

ARTHUR: He never hit me.

DOUGLAS: No?

ARTHUR: Not properly anyway. Just a clip round the ear when I annoyed him, but that’s normal isn’t it? It’s just to remind you to not annoy people, it’s my fault I kept forgetting what annoyed him; he only did it so I would remember.

DOUGLAS: Arthur-

ARTHUR: He didn’t ignore me either; he bought me loads of expensive things like smart clothes and sports things to play with. He said it was so I would look smart when he had important people over for a meal or a meeting or something, and I did try to learn to play football and tennis but they were really difficult and no one ever wanted to play with me. I suppose that was my fault too, I probably should have practiced more, so Dad could have been proud of me.

DOUGLAS: I’m sure he was proud of you for some things, Arthur.

ARTHUR: But he never came to my school plays or award ceremonies though; he was always too busy he said. And anyway, why would he come to see me when I never won anything and I was never an important part in the play? He probably would have come to see me if I was the lead role or if I was any good at school. He said he would come when I got the award for being top of the year but he never did, I didn’t mind though because Mum still came and she filmed it so Dad could see it later, I don’t know if he ever watched it though.

DOUGLAS: He might have done, you never know.

ARTHUR: He probably didn’t, he didn’t really care about me. He never let me try a musical instrument either, I really wanted to but he said music was for pansies and if I was a pansy then no one would like me at school anymore. I didn’t really mind, music lessons were very expensive he said and he was already paying for my school. I didn’t need to know how to play an instrument either; I didn’t want to be a pansy.

DOUGLAS: Now that is complete and utter rot. I play the piano and I’m definitely not a “pansy.” Your father was being unnecessarily bigoted and cruel.

ARTHUR: He was mean to me when he spoke to me too. He liked to call me stupid a lot, I suppose it was because I was stupid, I did try to be clever but then he would just laugh at me and tell me to go away. He was only nice to me when he was having a dinner party with important people. He’d lie something awful then, he would tell everyone that I was top of my class or that I was captain of the football team when I wasn’t. I asked him why he told everyone that once and he got really shouty and sent me to my room for nearly two whole days! He clipped me round the ear then as well, but I deserved it, I made him angry.

DOUGLAS: (sighing) You really didn’t deserve it, Arthur. He was the one who lied to everyone; you were the brave one, to pick him up on it.

ARTHUR: I didn’t mean to be brave; I just wanted to know why but he never told me. He never told me why he took Teddy either. At least, I think he took him; I wasn’t actually there when he did it. He asked me why I was still dragging it around with me even though I was five and when I came home from school the next day Teddy was gone. Mum did get me a new, secret teddy but he wasn’t as good as my proper one, I didn’t tell Mum that though; I didn’t want to upset her.

DOUGLAS: He had no right doing that. He had no right to do any of those things, Arthur. You do see that, don’t you?

ARTHUR: I do see that, but it doesn’t matter because he never hit me, did he? So none of it really matters because he never hurt me. I shouldn’t be this upset just because I spoke to him. People are mean all the time and no one else gets this worked up. Sometimes I wish he had hit me, just so that I’d be allowed to be upset when I see him but that’s stupid. There must be something wrong with me to think that, everyone else can cope with mean people and I can’t because I’m stupid. He never hit me so I shouldn’t be upset, it’s just stupid. I’m just stupid.

DOUGLAS: Arthur, Arthur, shhh. Come here (Douglas puts his arm around Arthur and guides his head to rest on Douglas’ shoulder). He may not have hurt you physically but he did upset you, didn’t he (Arthur nods miserably). There, see? So of course you would be upset if you saw him again, he spent the majority of your childhood disappointing and terrorising you. I would be upset if I were in your position. But it’s alright now; you don’t have to see him again for a long time if you don’t want to. Not ever if you want.

ARTHUR: (sniffs dejectedly) He still rings me to try and buy G-ERTI every year.

DOUGLAS: Then pass the call onto me; I’m sure I’d be able to deal with the man.

ARTHUR: (looking up) You’d do that? For me?

DOUGLAS: Yes, I will.

ARTHUR: But why?

DOUGLAS: Because, Arthur, you are, without a shadow of a doubt, the most brilliant son someone could have asked for.

I'm not the OP but I'm sniffling!

Somehow it works out better with Douglas comforting Arthur, because Douglas can also be a little callous (though never worse than in Ottery) but he can also be caring and protective, and there's just not enough Douglas - Arthur interaction in general.

Ohhhh, *hugs them both*
This may not have been exactly what the OP asked, but it's just lovely, all the same.
Excellent job!
