Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please. Welcome to the brand new Page-a-Mod post. This post does not have a spiffy banner, because I am not the mod who makes them, but all the same it has come to my attention that we may be in need of an easier way to get hold of someone in charge. I doubt this will be seeing much use, much like a life vest on a flight between here and Luton, but in the unlikely even that we crash into a swimming pool someone has an issue that they need addressed, you can do so here.

As always, anon commenting is on. Comments are not screened, so if you want absolute privacy, you can always PM this account.

It's not much of a spoiler warning if it gives away a spoiler *in* the warning, is it? *grumble*

I can't find the prompt you're talking about, and am just about to take the dog out, so I don't have a whole lot of time to search right now. Do you have a link so I can get to it when I return?

Would you, possibly, be able to provide some kind of guide as to how long it's going to be expected and/or required for prompters to warn for Sherlock S2 spoilers? There's at least one short temper on the topic already.
I thnk there's a couple of good points raised in this thread - http://cabinpres-fic.dreamwidth.org/783.html?thread=3126031#cmt3126031
-as people seem to have differing expectations of how long is ...well, long enough.

Yes. But not right at this moment. I've contacted the other mod and will discuss this matter with her, since it does seem to be getting to be a fairly big issue. Once we've decided on one, we'll make sure it's posted.

I'm normally an LJ person and am a bit dense here with DW. When trying to track a certain prompt, the first option is greyed out and I have no other option but to track the whole post.

Do I have to be a paying member in order to keep a tab only on certain comments?

Yeah. It's the same as on LJ, actually. Just one of those little things you never think you'll need until you start participating in fic/kinkmemes.

The best alternative, if you don't want to/aren't able to pay for services is to bookmark the thread. What I used to do is have a folder in my bookmark bar in my browser, and every morning just check those for updates. If you use Firefox, and it may be the same for other browsers, you can right click on a folder and select 'Open All in Tabs' to check them sort of all at once.

Barring that, DW's getting pretty popular, and I'm sure something like the old LJ Add-on that used to track threads (before Release 89 broke it) will be ported over soon.

:)

You are more than welcome, of course, to fill the prompt after the 30th. If you're not able to get it done by then, you can announce it in the Filled/WIP post. The idea is that the amount of fills we get this round will set the benchmark for the second festival during Prompt Post 4.

prompting just to self-fill

(Anonymous)
2012-04-15 12:05 pm UTC (link)
I've noticed a trend with some prompts (some of them pretty specific) being filled hours after being prompted. Now, (1) this can in no way be proven to be a self-fill, because some writers are that quick and awesome, and (b) I actually think prompting just so one can have an anon way of sharing a story is acceptable.

But.

Could we encourage the prompt-to-fillers to *say so* in the prompt, just so others don't get all primed up for writing only to discover that the story already existed?

There are plenty of plots I want to follow (far too many, enough for a lifetime ;) ) for which an actual story *doesn't* exist. I'd rather focus on those.

I'm sure people who are really bitten by the plot bunny will end up writing it regardless, so I wouldn't worry about squashing creativity. Just about - better allocation of resources, shall we say.

I guess I'm not quite sure what the problem is. As you say, multiple fills are allowed and encouraged, and making prompters declare their prompt to exist for a self-fill may just put people off. Likewise, if people want to declare their prompt as self-fill material, I'm not going to stop them.

Basically, I'm not sure what benefit it would have, but go ahead and convince me. :)

"It also automatically turns itself on at 5000 comments, and unfortunately can't be over-ridden." (Quoted from the FAQ post)

Hey Chief, I might be wrong (hahaha!), but I think... I have a strategic master-stroke to counter that. One thing we could do is... close the prompting before it gets to 5000 comments.

This way, anon writers could continue to fill old prompts, and anon readers could continue to praise them, without having to compute how many body parts are in a pub, or how much is 19 minus a knee.

And... how does that sound to you?

Do you know, this is something I've thought about, and I'm not entirely sure how well it would work. I mean, we've been going through the posts fairly quickly. Prompt Post 3 lasted a month. 4's already half-gone.

I guess my concern is that cutting it off at 2.5k or something would make for obscenely short-lived prompt posts.

It's just a link without the other info on the filled prompt posts, and I know the thread title gives us the info, but it seems very against the spirit of surprising rice the FPP to ignore the rules about adding in the full prompt.

Hi, I'm completely new to the whole idea of prompts and prompt filling. I saw a prompt that is very old (as in, was ported over from LJ last year), and I'm wondering if there is a time limit on how far back we should fill prompts?
